I watched a couple more videos by him. Weak attack, panicky vibrato.. If it's so important to be "out there" and special, why use a guitar? Surely there are more flexible instruments out there for alien sounds?

Pay, no issue with folks disliking anything. However Henrys choice does not mean he can't play the congenital stuff.mentoneman":1p0bcbsf said:kasperjensen":1p0bcbsf said:I have respect for people that try and go beyond to push their understanding of music into another realm (for better or worse), but that just sounded like... and that's the point i think. make it so bad it's funny maybe? the flintstones think is hilarious and the airbender dancing is also a riot.
problem is if you say you don't like it defenders call you near sighted.
shawn lane is one of my top 3 heroes for guitar but his hindu yodeling at the end got way weird for me.
why does everyone get into their "indian" phase? beatles, led zep, sting, ej, is it like everyone has to get so bored with western music so they start reaching for bizarre spiritual directions, semitones, and think they can get me to stand on one leg next to a river in burma praying to a frog? it's peddling neurosis and asking too much and even taking advantage of a fan base.

As for Shawns or every one else's Hindustani yodeling...why not. I'm gonna guess it has to do with folks going to Indian and digging it. Also Shawns bag was Carnatic, south Indian as opposed to Hinustani being north.

Ed, would you happen to know if any of his conventional stuff is on Youtube?
I read an interview with him in a Swedish guitar mag, and he's obviously an intelligent man, considering his background. To my ears, his guitar playing, or should I say musical style, leaves me blank.
Your stuff can be a little out there as well, but there's no hiding your technical proficiency. The 5-6-7 videos I've watched on the tube, have only convinced me that I don't have to teach my kids how to play to get recognized on the Internet They could probably do something similar if I threw them a guitar tomorrow morning. It sounds like he doesn't know what to do with the instrument.
No because it's not something I listen to...that said his Yo Miles stuff I absolutely love, which is a Bitches Brew or Jack Johnson era Miles Davis hang...here ya go...ke2":2vze7q01 said:degenaro":2vze7q01 said:Pay, no issue with folks disliking anything.
