I can understand playing a different style of music......look at John Cage. 4'33 is a song with a lot of philosophy behind its meaning. I just do not understand this video with Kaiser and Dumble. Dumble can play though in this video.

Yes Dumble is a good player. Played in Santa Cruz with the band Snail (played Bass) back in the late 60's early 70's. Played guitar in those days as well, played a Super 400. Dumble can play for sure. So can Henry.
s-man,
are there any examples of what you consider good kaiser moments online to hear?

cause at the moment based on this and other yt clips i've heard of him he strikes me as a fashion guy trying to convince me that garbage is the new great.

i will never let someone else tell me that feces tastes great and smells like perfume, although it might be that to some.
Same as what I consider good Kaiser, we've been through this last go round...go to Amazon and listen to any of the Yo Miles stuff...

zappa's nuts, but i get it.
david torn and fripp and frizzel are avant garde but i get them too.
holdsworth is bizarre space language data dumping to some but i love him.

but this extra odd quirky stuff like kaiser and bailey is asking way too much from me. i normally admire players intuitively if they are truly great. i wanna sprint away cackling in laughter and disgust ala "are you freakin kidding me!?!?!?" like the minute i cave in and say they're ok someone's gonna jump out of the bushes and say it was all a joke.
I get why you would see Torn as avantgarde listening to some o of his stuff...but Fripp and especially Frissell????? Where is Bill avantgarde?

Wow, that's not what I was expecting..... That was amazingly bad :scared: :scared: I get trying to be different and all that but in some cases (this one for sure) some people try too hard to be different and create pure garbage. I do like how some people try and justify it as if it's some type of musical mastery where he's so much more than the average Joe that you could never understand it because it's so different

OK,

Here is the down low on this guy, I am from the Bay Area and always hear these two opinions about him from other musicians.

1. The guy is a genius and the greatest thing since sliced bread but you got to be into his style to really appreciate.

or...

2. The guy is a spoiled rich kid that inherted his dad's big car business money, he has no business being a musician and makes other Bay Area musicians look bad.

I have no opinion on the guy but I did see Slayer in 1994 at the Henry J Kaiser auditorium on the Divine Intervention Tour.

I understand some things maybe done or said for publicity so that they may appear to have maintained their "artistic integrity" but from what I hear that is all it is just words and statements, not like the guy is raking in big dough doing music to sustain his gear or lifestyle.

Like I said I have no opinion on the guy good nor bad, I know lots of people that know him and have nothing but nice things to say about the guy so I will leave it at that.

Except, but both me and snider are friends of his...so this has little to do with publicity.
As for many he's also a Marine Biology professor, and gets research grants, spending a lot of time at the south pole.

Anybdy knows y Shawn Lane liked his playng?
I know...since I know/knew both of them that Shawn liked his playing well enough to have worked with him...repeatedly.
Also Henry turned Shawn on to D'Gary.
Also when Kimock showed me how to bend down in pitch I was telling Henry about it and he was the only guy that I talked to about this that was already hip to it.

To me it seems like the negativity I hear about him from other local musicians is jealousy its really none of anyones business how he gets his money but that relation to his father seems to haunt him. Like I said I don't know the guy or really have a opinion about him but he seems to be good at what he does. I only know people that know him and they have only nice things to say about Henry.

He has achieved more success as a pro musician than most anyone on this board.

:D Really ? Is he in any hall of fame? Just curious on how you measure success.

The playing on that video still sounds like 2 cats fighting to me.

Shawn Lane also stood onstage reciting lines from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre while Buckethead played. Not exactly a normal individual. (although I think that's pretty awesome. "LOOK WHAT YOUR BROTHER DID TO THE DOOR!")

One can play outside the box and still demonstrate a deliberate exercising of skill and composition.

Justifying Henry's playing as "outside the box" is leaning very heavily on the excuse that music is an interpretive artform.

The dictionary defines music as:

mu·sic (myzk)
n.
1. The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.
2. Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm.

I've yet to hear any melody, harmony, rhythm or timbre coming from Mr. Kaiser's speakers.

WOW!!!!! Henry really makes me feel better about my playing.  Holy Sheet Bat Man! :powpow: :hys:

I agree it is total shit. There is some music that is far out there and I can understand why somenody else may like it, but this is shit. Henry is also a big fan of Dereck Bailey. Bailey is the worse. Henry had a YT clip where he was giving props to Dereck Bailey. There was a video of people all around him while he made noises. They were all into it or maybe not.
