I was able to get some very good rock tones on CH2- Overall I think you can do most anything with the Herbert and it really is a great amp. But... in time and after several Herberts I have found I prefer more of a Marshall flavor (Splawn Quick Rod to be specific).

I have had two Quick Rods, they are great amps. But if that is the tone you dig then the Herbert will not be the amp you would prefer for sure. They are at the opposite ends of the spectrum in regards to voicing IMHO. The Herbert is much more versatile IMHO but the Splawn has that Marshall growl and Karrang with a bit more dryness to it and punch than most Marshalls.

I of course prefer the Herbert but I can totally understand why anybody would dig the Splawn and for specific reasons why they would choose one over the other as they cover totally different ground IMHO.

I think the Herbert on Channel 2- mode with the right speakers (V30s) for me seems to get a great rock tone. I think it can cover everything from 60s, 70s. 80s, 90s and beyond of course.

I would love to get one of the Herberts. I have my VH4S up for trade for one.
If it happens then SWEEEEEEEEEET! If not....cool too since I love the VH4S as well.

Like trying to pick between 2 hot twins which is better!

:D
From what I know from the Randall-board, what kind of tones you like,
I guess you will like the Herbert a bit better.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Just that I owned alot of HIGH GAIN amps in the past and they always "Suffered" when trying to play old school rock.
I could never dial in a "crunch" it was always METAL or "less" metal.
I love the VH4S.....just trying to find out more about the Herbert.
Thats the amp I been gassing for the last 6 years. :D

I get my Herbert tomorrow...I can't fucking wait!

I am planning on doing a full rundown video of the Herbert as I don't think there are many good videos on YT currently.
This is one of the Herbert video's that stands out to me.....

That just sounds AMAZING!!
My VH4S cannot get into this level!

this vid does not represent the pure herbert voicing...mine doesnt sound even close to that rig...

it rcords great rock tones. you can do anything you want with a herbert period

Mark sounds like Mark no matter what he plays through. LOL. I will say that every amp test I've heard him do I can't find another that comes close to his tone with the same gear. Listen to his OD 100 clips or the PT 100 test he did then go listen to Pete Thorns samples with the PT 100. You'd swear it was a different amp.

He uses blackouts and I think that has a ton to do with his tone aside from being a HELLUVA player.

How is the Herbert at small club volumes and bar volumes? A friend had sold his Herbert because he said he found it unusable for small local gigs. I am curious thoughts on this because I love clips I hear. I am not, not a metal guy....but do play classic rock to hard rock. I keep hearing it is more of a big stage amp.

I have used my Herbie in small tiny clubs to arena sized venues...it works just fine in all applications. If you play @ small club levels, you may want a smaller cabinet....just to save some peoples ears.
