6550's for me all the way on Herbert and VH4

NOTHING to my ears has touched those tubes on those amps....IMO....for ME. I have tried them all and like many but my heart is with the 6550's.

Now I will say for an EL 34 tube, the BHT is the king of 34's IMO. I am also a fan of the KT 77 for sure, especially in Einstein

Anybody needing tubes, they can be had directly from us at the USA shop

nothing but love man. nothing but love. I may have to test run those new EL34BHTs.

my personal impression, when i switched from EL34 (JJ E34L) to 6550 (winged =C=), was:

WAY more presence/top end than before, mroe attack, much tighter bottom end, overall: compared to the low-mid/low-end "honk" the E34L delivered, the sound with the 6550 i'd say is much "rounder" frequency-wise) and to my ears its just incredible balanced now. which also results in that the mid-cut is a bit less effective than before (Seems like the sound with the EL34 were "forcing" these freq-range, while with the 6550 its, as said, more balanced).

i just felt that (almost) every knob is a bit usefuller/more effective than before.

i love the 6550 =c=, they really brought me a big step closer to "my" sound, and i cant see myself changing them for another type.

itneresting enough: while the change between EL34s (from TADs to JJs) was hearable, but not that of a difference, the 6550 made me think that i'm really playing a different amp.

Where did you get your tubes and which specific ones?

i bought Svetlana Winged =C= 6550, from btb-elektronik in germany!

in the U.S., dont buy "Svetlana", the real deal runs under "SED" in the U.S., as the brand "Svetlana" inthe U.S. is owned by electro harmonix (if i'm nto mistaken), therefor the REAL svetlana tubes sell under the brand "SED".

i moved my amp from a closet sized room to a larger room only to find that it sounded amazing. I admit that i am an idiot and this post was started for no reason.

apologies!

Has anyone here tried the 2x kt88 2x 6L6 2x el34 combo in their Herbert. If so how did it sound?

Has anyone tried the Ruby bht el34s in their herbert yet, im curious to see what they sound like.

I have 6 of 'em in my Herbert! They sound CRUSHING. Thunderous low-end and really terrific through the whole frequency spectrum. I see why Peter recommends them and I wholeheartedly agree

wow thats good news

where did you get them

and do you hae any soundclips?

Does anyone know if anyone is selling the new diezel cabs in southern California yet?

ok then!!!

can you pm me ur number again, i am an idiot.

and by the way how much are white shells

I have been reading this topic and it really got me enthusiastic to do some testing myself with different tubes.

But I hear you guys mostly talk about powertubes but i'm also curieus what pre-amp tubes do and what kind of different types pre-amp tubes are there?

that would be sweet! tell me when you do. my herbert doesn't sound very good on a mesa cab. it sounds thin, have you ever had that problem?
Not exactly thin sounding, but it's not as tight bass sounding as I expected from the descriptions of the Herbert here on the forum. For now I blame it on the EL34's, but I've never tested Diezel cabs, so the Mesa cab might as well be at least a part of the problem. First of all I'll change to KT88 tubes, and we'll see how it goes from there

Hey,

I have a mesa recto cab and can tell you - this is the wrong combination for this amp.
I had my deep control at 9 o'clock not to get muddy.
Try a "normal"-sized cab and this will be much better instead of spending money on replacing tubes that still work ;)

i took my Herbert apart today because i was curious to see the insides.

This Amp is one amazing piece of work, no wonder it costs so much.

it is worth every penny!!!
