High gain amp recommendations

If it was in the budget I wouldn’t overlook the big boys lol but I may have to sit a while longer and see if any better deals than what’s out there currently pop up. I have looked at a few 6505 peavys but haven’t heard any in action so didn’t know how they lined up with the evh version.

I'm assuming you're looking at spending about $700 since that's what the 5150lbx goes for new. What is you budget BTW? I don't think you mentioned it. If you can manage to put away a few hundred extra you should be able to find a good deal fairly easily; especially if you go 6505.

The 6505's have the same core tone as a 5150. Like the different iterations of 5150, it's just a slightly different flavor.

Well I’m looking at buying used really 5-600 was towards the top of my budget currently. The lbx can be had used for 3-400. Also looking at buying a 4x12 cab is the reason for a lower budget. See the 50 watt 5150 normally hangs around 8-1000 on the used market so could make it happen just have to wait a hair longer and I’m impatient lol
Also I’m not against a peavy at all just didn’t know if they compared to the evh version.

Here's a good comparison of a 6505 & 5150. You can hear that same core sound in both.

Also I forgot to mention I was looking at a jetcity jca22h. Does anyone have experience with jetcity heads? Some say they are like a baby Soldano

What does the 50 watt do that the lbx cant? I understand the 50 watt is definetely going to be better I just don’t know if in my situation it’d be worth the extra money especially with out being able to play side by side to see if I’d settle.
For me it's all about the Blue channel and the 50s will be more versatile with three channels. The lbxs has the green (clean) and red (lead).

It's all about what you need now and budget, I got my lbxs used for $550 a couple years ago.

Was going to put it on the original list, but honestly you're probably better off with the EVH if you like that flavor.
The EVH is a really good amp and highly recommended, but tbh I still feel like you would be better off with the Diavlo for your stated intentions.
If you down tune at all, it's no contest.
Bring on the hate, y'all. :ROFLMAO:

The 50 watt I played I mainly used the red channel. The lbx has 3 different versions with a mix of the 3 channels as well. I don’t care about cleans all too much I have other amps for that, but would like to have the blue channel as well as that I beleive is to be the most favored by everybody. The lbx used has a few reverb listings for 400ish.

I’m actually a lame and mainly play in standard or drop d. Every now and then I do have a guitar I keep in c# but don’t play it much. I do like playing low tuning just don’t do it often for what songs I’m normally playing maybe that’s just a sign to widen my variety lol

Sorry, just assumed from the brutal chugg comment in your original post.
You won't be disappointed in an EVH.
So, there's that.

I like every tuning to sound heavy was my point lol. Would like to get more into it for sure though just mainly played standard and drop d over the years so haven’t gotten into it much but it’s coming eventually

You could probably find a peavey ultra plus, xxx or 3120 in that range as well. I’m with everyone else even for bedroom I would go full power, peavey 6505+ or 3120

has anyone mentioned yet that the LBX Runs EL84's ???

I had a LBX ..... and a 6L6 50 watter ...... I would take the 50 watter all day and night ...
Bigger tubes in the output section give that punch I really enjoy. Couldn't agree more in this case.

Good to know. I had figured I’d also get an attenuator to push it harder at lower volumes as well. Seems like the 50watt 5150 is the go to though.

Glad to help! Also with the EVH 50w, you absolutely do not need an attenuator or a reamper. The master volume on those amps are excellent and work amazingly well at low volume. Also the power amps of the 5150’s are meant to run clean, like a hi-fi stereo system, while all the distortion and tone is generated in the preamp. Because of this, you don’t really have to “work” the poweramp at all to get the goods from it.

Anyone use an Orange OR15 for chuggy stuff? I had one a while back and it was pretty mean but don't know if could be boosted to get tight enough for what you want. Great amp in that price range though.

The 50 watt would be nice just don’t think I’d ever use its full potential. That’s why I was looking into the 15 watt which they say still gets pretty brutal. I have a 2x12 cab currently, but looking to upgrade to a 4x12. The 15 watt can be had for close to 300 used as well, but that’s why I’m also Asking for opinions if the 50 watt is worth the extra dough I’d definetly rather have something I’d be more satisfied with beings I’ve never played the 15watt I can’t speak for how much I like it.

You can play the EVH series at bedroom volumes and it sounds no different cranked up. Excellent master volume and effects loop. Agree with @SFW they are the best values from 50W/100W high gain heads on the market. Now tone taste, that's obviously subjective but the value and quality is there.

Can't speak to the OR15 specifically, but I've always thought of Orange as doom/stoner over chuggs as far as heavy stuff goes.
