High gain amp recommendations

Here's a good comparison of a 6505 & 5150. You can hear that same core sound in both.

He should have run the Synergy through the 6505 or the EVH power section instead of the Marshall. Also didn't like the way he dialed the EQ/Pres/Res in the 6505 either.

The 50 watt would be nice just don’t think I’d ever use its full potential. That’s why I was looking into the 15 watt which they say still gets pretty brutal. I have a 2x12 cab currently, but looking to upgrade to a 4x12. The 15 watt can be had for close to 300 used as well, but that’s why I’m also Asking for opinions if the 50 watt is worth the extra dough I’d definetly rather have something I’d be more satisfied with beings I’ve never played the 15watt I can’t speak for how much I like it.
Still get it . Because it sounds amazing quiet and YOU will move up . You waste so much money slowly moving up watts

Go big.....You don't need 100w by any means but you do want 100w :)

As far as mini amps sure, the MT15 is crushing as well as many others but for me more watts just sounds better, it's the headroom.

You don't need to crank it, ive had large amps at whisper levels sound crushing. Most modern amps don't need full volume, full power tube distortion going like an old Marshall. You can get the goods at very low volumes with most amps these days but the extra thump, headroom and ability to blast when you want is very satisfying. Just need a good master volume.

Just my opinion, with that said I currently have a boss katana 50w due to finances and it absolutely works.

Glad to help! Also with the EVH 50w, you absolutely do not need an attenuator or a reamper. The master volume on those amps are excellent and work amazingly well at low volume. Also the power amps of the 5150’s are meant to run clean, like a hi-fi stereo system, while all the distortion and tone is generated in the preamp. Because of this, you don’t really have to “work” the poweramp at all to get the goods from it.

Looking at one right now trying to see what I can get it for. If Ola approves then it’s gotta be good

If you know you already like the Mesa sound, and are willing to wait another paycheck or two to get a good amp for those tones or similar these are all currently for sale not far from your upper budget.

If you're questioning the DC 5/10's chug factor...

I LOVED my 5150III LBX, but if you can spend a little more, you get so much more from the 50W 5150III and it sounds equally as good turned down quiet.

Anyone use an Orange OR15 for chuggy stuff? I had one a while back and it was pretty mean but don't know if could be boosted to get tight enough for what you want. Great amp in that price range though.
Ha! I was gonna mention the OR15. Killer little amp but it will need a boost for legit hi gain tones in my experience. Don't forget the Rocker 15 and the Brent Hinds 15. The Brent Hinds was my favorite. More Marshally than the others.

Do you need multiple channels? Do you mind "needing" a boost?
Also yeah, the 5150 50 watt is just a killer amp.

I could wait and get one I’m just an impatient person when it comes to things I want lol. From everyone’s opinions though it sounds like that’s the best thing to do wait it out and go big

5150III LBX is a great little amp. I liked it very much, but I sold it. It was too loud for apartment and not loud enough to hold up with our drummer. If you want LBX for home practice, then probably LBX-S is a better choice.

Luckily I don’t have to worry about being too loud, and if I was to ever need to play with a drummer I have access to the big boys for that lol I just don’t have any for at home use.

Just to let you know, a big iron amp used at any volume is technically being used to its potential because the tone at all volumes will be a bit different than lower wattage amps. Big iron amps aren’t just about volume by any means.

That said, the LBX is cool. However, believe it or not the 50w EVH heads perform better at super low volume because all the frequencies fade in at the same rate, where the highs and lows of the LBX fade in with the volume knob at different rates so you have a “minimum” volume before everything starts sounding right. Again the LBX is still overall a cool amp though.
True.. The LBX goes from zero to holy shit real quick. The 50 watt does much better at lower volume.

I would recommend the Engl Fireball 25 as well. Killer amp!
