How come nobody talks about the JVM series?

Got my eye on a JVM410h and a 1987X or JCM800 reissue. Cant make up my mind.
Any suggestions? been driving myself crazy for the last couple weeks.

I'm all over the place in music but looking for something to do old school ACDC ,Led ,old school Def Leppard.
But ok if it can do modern stuff too. Just stuck and leaning towards the 1987X :cautious:
Get the JCM 800 reissue. I have a Marshall Mini Silver Jubillee head and is so fun to play man. Has EL34s and I can play it at low volume in the house, great clean channel, etc.

You nailed what i was going to say about the JVM. It sounds like a recorded Marshall or smooth, ideal Marshall tone. It doesn't have enough of that raw, pushed tone. I'm sure it just has more gain than Marshall owners are used to.
Yeah it sounded to me very fake in the same way as Engl’s and distant almost like the sound is coming from somewhere else. Definitely not an ideal Marshall sound to me lol. I otherwise liked some things about its sound and don’t recall it being smooth

My JVM410H broke within a year. Get all new tubes. It wasn't a tube issue.
Garbage pickup is every Monday, so I imagine it's in a landfill somewhere. IMO, it wasn't worth the headache of trying to find a tech and dump more $$ into it.
The time I had it, I spent more time turning knobs, searching for tones that weren't there.

The Clean (green) was cool as a pedal platform, although, on that channel, the tone controls are "before" the preamp, ala Fender. I didn't buy a Marshall for Fender sounds that were anemic compared to an actual Fender amp. I found orange and red modes usesless.

The Crunch channel had no gain. Again, anemic.
I only really liked OD 1 (orange) you could basically live on that channel if you set it up right.
OD 2, with it's altered midrange blew.

With any Gain knob past noon, you start losing the ability to turn your guitar's volume down for cleanup.

This amp needs to be revamped, IMO. I would NEVER buy another though. Marshall can shove their garbage up their collectives asses.
That certainly doesn't sound like a typical experience. If you couldn't get any gain out of the crunch channel, then your amp was broken way beyond tubes IMO.

If it was me, and I wanted to play that music, I'd get a 1987x or 800 and get it modded by someone for a standard extra gain stage.

I would get the JVM if you wanted a "jack of all trades master of none", and wanted decent to good tones for a wide variety of old school to modern.

I got the modern stuff covered with my EVH but it doesn't do early ACDC or the Zep stuff. I got a Lion 68 pedal run thru the effects loop (4 cable meth), and it sounds amazing. Makes me want a real Marshall to get those sounds I want from when I was a kid. Leaning towards the 1987X but still looking at the 800 as an option. The JVC everyone says its close but no cigar on authentic tones. It's nice I just don't know if I would be happy. Could ditch the EVH and get the JVC.

Something to keep in mind with an 800 or 1987x is that you need an attenuator or to be LOUD to get those tones, too

That's why I suggested modding it

But if you want acdc or led zep why not just
get a plexi style amp?

Playing loud is not a problem, my Wife and has gotten use to it over the years :ROFLMAO: But an attenuator might not be a bad ideal, any suggestions?

There's a bunch of great ones - I love the fryette power station series personally, but the rivera rock crusher has fans too, and it sounds great

I'm not a big fan of the boss TAE (there seems to be some argument about if it's safe) but some people swear by it

The OX and Torpedo stuff is more specific to digital recording rather than attenuation, but it sounds good for sure - i just haven't used them for attenuation so idk

I know you have to take care of your hearing but let me tell you a story. I had to take a hearing test a couple years ago for this company I worked for.
Afterwards they pulled me to the office. They said Hey you checked off you shoot guns and play loud music etc. yep!
Well, your test is off the charts for someone of your age. They never seen anything like it before. Said my hearing was like a 18 yr than a 55 yr old man LOL

I got my hearing from my mother, she could hear a knat fart at a hundred yards, no shit .

My kids use to tell me to TURN IT DOWN,:ROFLMAO: Whats up with the younger generation? All they want to use is headphones.

Hey thanks for the info (y)Looks like I can do this an more with it's in my price range.

Torpedo Captor X Power Attenuator.

I know the amp. I was in the original RigTalk JVM buy-in, when the amp first came out. Then I had the Satriani model, and then the last POS that failed.
The Crunch channel blew, IMO

This is a forumite Rob Tahan with a JVM

Tone reminds me of early cacophony.

There’s great note clarity but I still hear what others talk about - the amp sounds synthetic. I have to admit I’ve heard recorded lead tones from modelers lately that sound better, fuller, more alive.

Amazing playing though - absolutely nothing to do with his talents. Dudes got chops!

Sorry your's was a dud. I've had a few amps that has happened with. I had a XXX that blew up rather well one time. Had a Marshall 100 MKII Super Lead go up in smoke one time as well.

I've had 3 stock 410's, one modded 410 and the HJ...still have two 410's and not one has failed on me knock on wood. In fact my original release year with the flex knobs has been my main amp pretty much since the release. Off the top of my head an untold number of rehearsals, hours spent in the studio, years of playing at home and two straight years of touring, 'bout 160 shows or around that. Never an issue with one of them.

LOL It went out with the garbage like the POS it is/was.

JVM is a superior marshall amp.

Most people who thought it had issues were completely clueless to how the tone stack worked and how the dials needed to be. Too many dial with their eyes and then talk shit.

All JVM hate stems from that.

Anyone who was intelligent enough to use the amps control sweeps and find how they affected eachother.... absolutely loves the amp endlessly.

JVM💀FTW

The original is more brutal than the JS model too. So don't choke on the cork shards people try and force down your throat. 💯
