Depends on the area you live in.
The County Sheriff is the final word on wether or not any order deemed unconstitutional will be enforced in his county.
Where I live, ours is solid as a rock. No way would he allow an unconstitutional order to be put into action in our county and all of us would react accordingly if it came to that.
Here, Law enforcement is treated with respect as long as they uphold their oath. They know full well they are hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned, so it serves as a check and balance (as it dam well should)
We all co exist and treat each other with respect.
When the hurricanes hit, people are reminded by law enforcement that we shoot looters and evildoers so don’t do anything stupid and there are few problems if any at all..
In my town, shooting looters is considered community service and everyone stays in check. I would guess 85% of households here are well armed, and would gladly defend a neighbor who was not from an idiot.

Got an update from my buddy on the ground with the lineman crews, there are bodies stuck in trees, buried in mud, rocks and debris, body parts too. They are doing the best they can but the situation is very very bad. They found a baby in a washout that they had to cover up and set aside till they went back to the staging area, the guys were working with tears in their eyes.
I’ve been through countless hurricanes here and it’s never been that bad here, even in CAT4-5 storms where everything was destroyed. People know to get out of low areas and at least 20 miles off the coast.
The people in this storm never had any idea that much water was gonna hit their mountain areas and had never experienced anything like this. The death toll will be very high before this is over

Pritzker in Illinois took over paying all the Sheriffs in 2022 and gave them all a raise equal to 80% of what the Illinois State attorney gets paid, so the Sheriff's in Illinois no longer work for the people even though they were elected and used to be paid directly by the people taxes in that county.
Kinda looks like they are putting the Sherriffs under the state thumb now doesn't? I'm sure there are identical pay schemes going on in alot of states.

Most sheriffs in Illinois got a pay increase. That wasn’t determined by local county boards, but by the state.
The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association supported House Bill 4700 in 2022, which changed the way sheriffs across that state get paid. The process of how sheriffs get paid now mimics how state’s attorneys across the state get paid.
According to the law, sheriffs have to be paid at least 80% of what the state’s attorney in that county is paid. The law also says that the state of Illinois pays for about 66% of that salary, the county treasurer then picks up the other 34%. The county board cannot withhold their portion because the law mandates the county treasurer pay that portion out from the county budget.
“I don’t know what they were trying to fix there but it did give several sheriffs across the state an increase,” said McLean County Sheriff Matt Lane.
In January 2023, nearly 80 of the 102 Illinois sheriff’s vowed to defy the state’s ban on certain semi-automatic firearms and magazines over certain capacities. Lane stood against the ban prior to the Illinois Supreme Court upholding the ban. He said if Springfield was attempting to buy off the sheriffs with a pay increase, he is “positive it didn’t work.”
“I think each sheriff is an individual thinker and they won’t go along with a program if they don’t think it’s the right thing to do, whether that’s a law or policy that the governor wants to put into effect, regardless of any salary increase or decrease,” Lane said. “That’s not what we are here for.”

The dams didn’t fail. They thought lake lure was going to but it held. I’m from North western NC close to Boone and still live fairly close to the region. There is sections that are completely fucked and unfortunately some of the stuff about fema is true.
But back to the water rising….
It floods in the mountains and honestly I’ve been told my whole life about floods like this, there was the 1940’s flood and the and 1916 flood that my grand parents and great grand parents talked about. It was bad then as well but just wasn’t nationally know.

For sure. I work in medical and several of the people I work with have been going and helping in various areas. The smaller towns of Swannanoa, spruce pine, black mountain etc have been truly decimated. I can tell you the stories of bodies being stuck up in trees and being cut out are true and as of today I know that fema for certain are shutting down volunteer groups and taking their supplies.
