Hey brother, let us know what Gnugear thinks when you talk to him... Also, post what you think when you get the new set sometime.

Will do. I sent Gnugear (Chris) an E-mail. i'll let you know what he says.

I wont be geeting a quad until I sell the other speakers!

Has anyone gotten any better pricing out of dealers for the EVH cab yet or are they MAP only still?
From my guy that hooks me up really well at the GC, the amp and cab are locked in pretty much right now. They could possibly have it over ridden, but I would say your best bet is to find another dealer or byuy used. I think Matts music would be able to move a bit in price, but it probably wont be substantial.

Please forgive my ignorance -- I may be asking a dumb question here.

The G12Ms are only rated at 20W. If you put them in a 4X12 with a 100W head, won't you stand a very good chance of blowing the speakers?

I've got a pair of 4-12's loaded with those original 20's and I've used them for years with 100watt+ amps. No problems. They are actually tighter and clearer than my 25 watt RI's. The only problem is they don't throw the sound very far.

The other thought is to try a VM cabinet and see how that is cause its cheaper. But damn those Heritage speakers all to hell. They sound fantastic.

Ive always had that same experiance with my original greenback loaded cab. It's like they hold back the sound but I dig that!! it's like they are going to explode lol :D

Hey Ralph, how many cabs do you have?

3 - 4x12's and 2- ported 2x12's (earcandy)

IMO...the best rock n roll speaker out there. I have them in my old beatup 73' straight Marshall cab and they smoked my original 25's.

so are there any other production cabs on the market that are using these speakers? the Hendrix cab perhaps? Only other route I see is going Avatar vintage 4x12 but would rather avoid the shipping thing. Would love to walk into a store and out with a cab. And its starting to look more and more like the black EVH cab for me.

How do they sound vs. original pre-rola greenbacks? (if someone already post this question, sorry, I couldnt read the entire thread)

That's what I am going to find out because Gnugear has an old basket weave pre rola cab abd he compared the webers/scumbacks and Heritages to that cab.
The problem with the Originals is that they varied so much. If you got a good sounding pair, they were magical and pretty hard to beat but I have heard a lot of shitty sounding greenbacks. The cab I had was incredible but I was to metal to at the time to know what I had and I pretty much threw them out (don't get me started !!)

I don't doubt that for a second!! The original 70's greenbacks and even the 60's were hit or miss IMHO.

No, I believe the Hendrix cab uses yet another version of a greenback...confusing isn't it!!

Confusion is ok. But the price tag is keeling me ROFL. I am trying to justify this potential purchase. Somehow I think if I do get one soon, its going to go over like a lead balloon at home.

I still havent had a chance to play the heritage Greenies!

Do they sound that much different/better than the 25w GB reissues?

I think a few folks on TGP said the Heritage GBs break up MUCH more and faster than the RI GBs. In essence Heritage GBs are much looser than the RI. Can you confirm this ?

thanks

Anyone ?

Thats why you need a WALL of them!

For small rooms and stages its a plus for me to not have the sound throw so far. Most of our stages are not very deep but pretty wide.

What i find interesting about 25's ( greenbacks and blackbacks) is that depending on how much u play and how much u push them hard, the voicing remains consistent for the most part, but they do start getting worn in and can distort more down the road. I haven't had my new ones long enough to hear that yet, but after 15+ years of playing the originals in my other cab ( especially when using a 100 watt head or non-master volume head) I noticed a big change in the amount of speaker break up...which is a logical evolution I guess. The other intersting thing is that I bought Dean Deleo's ( STP ) vintage 30's that he used on the road back in the early 90's and they were so worked in that they sounded completely different than a brand new Vintage 30...but in a good way. I still will always prefer the 25 greenbacks though for my taste.

Yeah both my basketweave cabs sound different from each other and they are loaded with the same speakers.

The cab that is beat to death sounds better...imagine that!

Sup!!

The old Greenies suffered from the same thing that the early Marshalls did..meaning that they changed parts throughout the years which made them sound different. The Greenbacks changed over time, both on coils, suspension/spider, and cones and that's why it is possible to get an old greenback speaker that sounds amazing and one that sound like crap (I have experianced this first hand!)
