I Just Don't Get This Kind Of Thing

There's another thing- He advertises it as new, but in my view it is fundamentally not new anymore once he opens it up and modifies it. New is what Egnater built; That's gone once he mods it.

 :( :scared:   :gethim:  :bleh: :bleh: :student: :student: :lame: :lame: :dunno: :dunno: :boxer: :boxer: :codeak: :codeak: :jerkit: :jerkit: :jedi: :force: :jedi: :force: :uzi: :uzi: :powpow: :powpow:

What great is he changes the choke. It doesn't have a choke. We both laughed when we saw it. Whatever! I guess the 5000 we have sold to date tells us it needs to be modified to be better. Making us sell 10 more when he modifies them and costing twice as much.

That's funny!

I think Fargen used a form description of his mod where all he has to do is
insert "your amp here" as the one being modded.

That's why I had the mod question yesterday; why not buy a Fargen if you want a Fargen mod? I bought Egnater because I wanted an Egnater, not another amp designer's amp guts in an Egnater shell.

That's like the guys that do the Fuchs "transplant" mod to the Fender Prosonic. Why not just buy a Fuchs? To each their own, I guess...

Maybe I am overly sensitive- But aren't there legal issues here? Claiming it new? Warranty? Using their image?

I don't like this kind of thing.

 :(   :gethim:   :(   :gethim:

Seems like some of you have heard of this guy, but I haven't. Who the hell is this guy to say that he can get it better then Egnater? Screw him.

:D    :( :scared:   :gethim:

Other than tube swaps, there is nothing a want to do to my Rebel :)

I don't think tube swaps count as this kind of thing. You obviously have to replace tubes every now and again- the amp is designed to do that. It's also undoable.

Let's string this guy up! :banhim: :banhim: :codeak: :codeak: :jedi: :force: :jedi: :force: :uzi: :uzi: :powpow: :powpow:

Well OK maybe not...

The rebel, is a very attractive package, meaning even just the size and weight, such a cool little amp. While he probally could of been more PC in his descriptions, sounds like they are trying to sell it, and perhaps thought those precise words would speak to someone. I think the price tag is pretty steep though, double, thats pricey. I think it would be more attractive at maybe even 300 more rather then more like 600 more.

mercury mag OT's cost around the $250.00 mark. not cheap. just put one and a MM choke in my Vox ac30cc
It made a big difference in tone. also put some Sozo vintage caps in as well. It all gave the amp a warmer and fatter tone
more pro sounding. less plastic.

:)

I guess if you are going to stick expensive parts in the amp it is obviously gonna push the price up.

Mercury Mags are supposed to be excellent but they are pricey
I've listened to the Fargen stuff and it sounds nice - wouldn't trade my Eggie modular stuff for it though

The whole point of the Rebel was that it was a great design built to a certain price point
If Jeff and Bruce wanted to do a version themselves using the best parts in a cost is no option way made in the USA I'm sure the price would have to reflect that and that it would offer even better tone

One of the thoughts behind the Rebel was that once regular players have tried or bought a Rebel, they might be curious to step up to the Handmade USA built modular stuff which does have higher spec parts etc.

I'm sure some people will buy the Fargen modified version and it means that more Rebels get sold, but to pay double the price ?
I would just rather go modular

BUT
I would love to see a 20w amp from Egnater that could take a module - that would be fun
(I know that a Rebel with an E2 would be just that - only better)

My 10w single ended power amp (with 5881/EL34/6CA7) is killer with my M4 for home /studio use

I think the concept is cool but the idea to use the terms to describe the Rebel as "Stale"and such, just makes the guy look like a Fargen Idiot   If Bruce wanted to make a 1200 dollar Rebel that would sit on Ebay for weeks and weeks,I'm pretty sure he would have done so  Anyway, lets get back to real topics cause looks like it's getting slow around here  just MO

As a long and loyal Egnater owner, I do want to mention that Fargen also makes great amps.
If you ever get a chance to try a MiniPlex or MightyPlex I think you will be impressed.
