Killer album, always loved this one. I remember buying it right after it was released expecting pretty much instrumental Megadeth, very pleasantly surprised how diverse his playing could be. His jazz/fusion background made this stuff so much more interesting than a lot of the other straight forward metal shredders IMO.

i want to know the signal chain
this is the best sounding vowel/vocal-ish lead tone ever recorded in heavy music.
i know he had this rig for 2 weeks before he recorded it and it was based off of a fish preamp and i think a vht power amp or maybe a rivera
but was it recorded to tape or adat?
what was the mic pre?
pickups?
i love CP's entire career and everything he has done, but the lead and rhythm tones on this record and the rhythm tones on the damm the machine album are a pinnacle

also -i met mark and chris on the damm the machine tour and got to spend some quality time with them-the 2 coolest dudes ever!

PS
metalopolis is 26 years old

i know chris works as a manager at that huge rehearsal facility in downtown LA
i have been tempted to call him about this but .......i don't want to bother him with such obvious fan boy shit
none the less i bet he would be into talking about it

also the last stuff recorded with nick in ohm was as close to metaopolis territory as he has been in a long while.
i am still very upset over nick's passing as it was obvious they had bottled lightning and the chemistry and musical interplay was excelsior.

"Yes! I would love to know how he did it.

I think the PRS has something to do with it"

you are hearing guitar, and i can dig that but i bet anything that mic was going thru a 1073 or something equally sweet as fuck
there is some extra mojo /eq/squash on that lead tone that is just un-paralelled

Love this release. Chris Poland has sick technique. Love it, love it, love it

I've always loved Chris on his "Damn the Machine" album. Such a killer record.

I didn't know he ever played prs. I always thought it was bs rich, Yamaha and more recently Schecter. That's just endorsements though

Well, he is holding a PRS on the cover of this album...

I can't believe I never noticed that

That's a really good interview where he runs through his rig in 2012 if you haven't already seen it

Reza, Are you taking about the original 1990 release or the one that was remastered in 02? The 02 release release has two bonus tracks on it I think. I think their were more version as well. Preproduction was done on a Taskam Porta 05. Killer tones. Some cool info here. Might not be relevant to Metalopolis though

Nice. One of my all time favorite albums from one of my favorite guitar heroes. One of the disappointments in my life has been never getting to grind through a Chris Poland instructional DVD. Someone needs to get on that. Seriously, I'm not getting any younger here.

I swear his violin tone is in his hands. I don't know how he does it. Just an insane player and tone.

pisses me off that dude is relegated to managing a rehearsal studio instead of playing music full time, same with holdsworth who is always struggling to pay the bills.
it's great to see some guys on the forum pay respect to a legend who really deserves it.

Agreed. Poland, Uli, and a few other cats I was influenced by when I started, kinda flew under the radar it seems, and never got the recognition they deserved. I can listen to those guys all day and can't make it thru two vai or satch tunes.

Nailed it. Also Gary holt from exodus. Just had feel in his lead playing.

Jeff Beck for sure. I haven't heard ANYTHING from Uli that makes me interested in hearing more.

Man. Seventies Uli was a decade ahead of the eighties shredders. Some of the solos on virgin killer were ahead of their time. With a fuzz and a plexi no less.
