Now this is what I’m talking about. Real drums, recorded acoustically, played by a master. Just hearing a real snare helps my soul breath.
Modern drum sound needs a reinvention soonI played extremely rudimentary, drums myself, and when I used to record a lot, I found it was always better to keep it as simple as possible, and be solid rather than trying to go beyond my limit and have it be questionable.
so does the preponderance of drop tune chug. overdone is an understatement.Modern drum sound needs a reinvention soon
Not RT material, but I think the Drum Sound on this record is killer. Phil Collins from Genesis behind the kit.. Just Drums in a room with no fuckery..
Could only listen on an iPad speaker as I’m charging my headphones but that did sound pretty good.my buddy came over to record drums a couple days ago for one of his country rock band songs, im quite pleased how it came out, heres a little snippet

Drums from that era just seem so raw even when processed and the hats! , so crisp. Listen to the hats in sd3 or others when you open and close them..there is a weird phasing thing happening because they are just clamping down a sample with another sample when you tighten them. I just couldn't listen to it anymore. Hate it
Yes a shot gun sound or that thuddy floor tom snare that everyone loves. I hated grunge and the death of the hair scene back when it⁹ happened but listening to Pearl Jam on the radio the other day, holy crap that snare and that kit sounded so damn good and real to me. They recorded that perfectlyThe cymbals, especially the hihat, is one of the most annoying and obviously digital sounding parts with samples, for sure
I honestly think that most sampled snare drums are exhausting to listen to nowadays though too
They actually recorded performances back then.. Mics up, outboard Compressors set and recorded right to Tape. Fucked up? Do it again..Drums from that era just seem so raw even when processed and the hats! , so crisp.
