I Need a New Delay Pedal

Currently have a Boss DD-3 and an Empress Super Delay. I like 'em both. But I'm a delay whore.

Looking for a pedal to use in the loop of my Diezel VH4 and Cameron CCV. Diezel has parallel loop with loop level and a series loop. CCV has a series loop with level control. I need a pedal that will work well in my amps' loops. Must be super clean. Will be used with lots of high-gain stuffs. I just want super crisp, clean delays. What goes in, comes out. That's the priority. If the pedal also has the ability to do other delay types like tape and modulation and whatnot, that's cool too.

Seems like I have trouble getting clean repeats sometimes. Like the signal is too hot or something. If I dig into my guitar, delay falls apart because none of my pedals have the ability to set input/output gain.

No rack gear. Pedal only.

I tried out a TC Electronics Flashback the other day and I think I liked it. But I only tried it in a GC plugged into the front end of a Fender Champ or something. So while it sounded great there, it wasn't comparable to being in the loop of a high-gain amp.

I've played a Nova and a Time Factor before and I thought bother were too complicated for my needs. Any word on the Strymon Timeline? I've watched the videos at Pro Guitar Shop and whatnot. But I'm thinking for the price, the Flashback (or the Alter Ego Flashback from PGS). But not sure how it will work in the loop of my amps.
 
I've been looking for another. I have a Trex Replica in my loops which is fantastic, you have complete control over levels and it's clean sounding and simple. Been looking at an Empress as well as I want to store some presets, the Black Vintage model.
 
I've used for some times a Flashback in the loop of my Hagen, using both serial or parallel loop, with success. Great sounding pedal, no tone suck in serial loop (true bypass). It has the Toneprint feature which is quite great to expand its possibilities. And the new Flashback X4 looks good too (basically 3 pedals in 1).

I got a Timeline. Yes it can be complicated but you can keep it simple. I use it in the loop ofa 100 W Einstein and the digital delay setting is super clean and clear. IMO Flashback x4 is a simpler version of a Timeline.
 
I think one of the problems is that with the VH4, the Channel Volume acts as the Loop Send Level. So if I have a Channel Volume up high (where I usually like 'em), it clips the input of the Empress. And the Empress has no way to set input/output gain.

The Flashback x4 looks cool. I was thinking of trying the Alter Ego Flashback from PGS for the two tweaked delay models. But I think unless a delay pedal has input/output levels, I'll have the same problem.
 
I use a TC Nova delay in the loop of my invader. Love it. Not sure how it stacks up against a lot of the higher end delays that you guys use, but it's enough for me.
 
i have a flash back delay i would be willing to sell you? it has different routing option and buffers
 
Another vote for the Flashback. Works great for what I do.

I use one in my loop on the Soldano and it sounds awesome.
Very warm old school sounding and quiet , and it handles the +4db line level loop signal with ease.
It sounds even better with an 18v AC adaptor on it :rock:

Awesome. Good to know :) I think it's gonna be either the Flashback x4 or the Alter Ego.
 
The DL8 from Hardwire is simply awesome. Very creamy and never gets in the way. I was blown away when we did Lukather's board. Plugged Dave's into my BE100 today and it was just right.

I love this thing!

Timeline is not too clever in a loop. Timefactor is much much better with a mixer. Flashback is very cool in the loop but the DL8 totally rules. I have had every delay in this thread and I have the amps you speak of. I am totally settled on 2 DL8's for the reason Mark Day states. I have mine in a looper so I can get variation. They are awesome.

I'll have to try the DL8. It's by Digitech, right? Looks exactly like a DD-3. :)
