I think I have found a new level of dumbness in a buyer

Dude has a few pedals for sale and I am interested in one. Says calls only. I text and ask if he’ll ship? Says yes and then asks me to call him… 😒. I’m not really looking for a relationship right now… I’m semi happily married so…. Yeah I’m not calling….

I always state in my ads to text me and NOT to call, because I can't always answer the phone, and I really don't feel it's necessary to talk to some dumbass about something I'm selling. Inevitably, EVERY time I'm selling something I get at least one asshole trying to call me.

I don't do text thing and I also don't tune down to C, because I was born in 1980.

A few years ago I sold someone a guitar on Reverb and posted pics of the guitar with a few nicks that come along with playing and a used guitar. Guitar is in excellent condition and I just had it set up at the time. They get the guitar and start crying about the nicks from other pictures I sent them. I said the guitar is used and not new and you knew that when you purchased it. After a while of going back and forth I told them to send the guitar back to me and I refunded their money. It was not worth the aggravation. I still have that guitar and I am glad I didn’t let it go.

I’m selling off my parents old furniture. Have an end table on CL for $25, guy wanted me to deliver it 325 miles away for the same price. I just delete nonsense like that.

When I recently sold my Super PA the guy HAD to play it. He drove from another state and asked me to find a local gas station with an exposed power outlet. So we set it up at a gas station near my house that had an electrical outlet outside, on the side of the building so they can’t see it from inside the store.

He pulls up and quickly unloads a Marshall 2x12 on the curb next to the outlet. He then says he has a generator in his van but he’s afraid it will drown out the amp. I told him “the amp is 1000x louder than that generator, let’s not steal power from this gas station please.”

Long story short, I had put a 2x12 facedown in the back of my car, the head, a guitar, and a cable (also a long extension cord…just in case). I opened the hatch, set the amp on top of the face down cab, plugged everything up using his generator for power. They bought it right fast after that.

Some people. In fairness, they were very nice guys.

I've had exactly ONE Craigslist sale work out; was selling an old Alamo amp and the guy that showed up to buy it knew exactly what it was and even had a personal collection of Alamo amps

Every other attempt has been such a shit show that I don't even bother listing anymore

Literally had one dude BEG me to hold the amp for like a week until he was ready to buy. Everyone else had flaked by that point so I said sure why not

Of course when the supposed day of purchase came, he had car trouble or needed new tires or some shit and backed out

I'll drive an hour or so to meet a serious buyer, especially if he's driving just as far. I live in an area that's hard to make deals though.

More than once, I've had sellers go out of their way to meet me as well. But I'm not a buyer who's jerking anyone around.

I hold stuff for people all the time....meaning I hold it until some other dude shows me the cash, then it's gone. sorry.

I'm not wasting my time meeting anyone from CL for anything. They want it, come to my house. They don't show, no sweat off my back.

That's over my head!
Just some CL guy who I tried to meetup with a couple times but logistically it never worked cause I'm not driving 90 minutes one way for a $100 pedal and he was busy and couldn't meet me when I was in his area. He's still selling it I think and it's been close to a year.

for a $100 pedal, just mail it. I once shipped an amp to a RTer and he lives about 10 miles away. Not sure why he wanted that at the time. He'd been to my house before and I'd been to his.

I had a local'ish guy message me on FB about my Von K Tele I'm selling and asked several questions about it and was like alright, I'm free Wednesday, I can meet up with you then. Then today it starts to devolve into hey, is there any way you'd take $100 less? Once I told him no, I was pretty firm, he came back with well can you meet me in x-town so I can look at it? I want to check it out first because it's not a well known brand and if I go to sell it, I may not be able to. I told him he didn't sound very convinced he wanted the guitar, so I wasn't going to drive an hour and a half round trip for him to just look at it and see what he thought, because if he didn't buy it, I'm out all that gas money and time. Then he replies with well, I'm interested, but I don't want to drive 2 hours round trip to look at a guitar that I'm not sure about. If it were a Nash or something I'd definitely do it, but a brand I'm not familiar with, I want to get my hands on it first.

I'm sorry, where is it my problem your town is an hour from me? Guitar Center isn't going to bring that new Ibanez you've been looking at to your house or meet you halfway so you can see how the frets feel and the body weight and then you decide whether you want it or not. The audacity of lazy fucks these days and their entitled attitudes. He's EXACTLY the kind of dude who'd buy a guitar from you or me off Reverb, try it out for a week and just not really like the way the pickups sound with his amp, and return it. Fuck the general public. This is why I have a million guitars and amps I'll never ever use; because I hate dealing with buyers who think personal commerce works like WalMart.
Bro, you should just track him down and hurt him. This is an outrage ! It would be an egregious disservice to the rest of the members if at the very least a severe lesson wasn’t taught. You must act now!!

That's all the motivation I needed brother! I'm gonna go to his town and beat his ass right now! And I'm bringing the guitar with me! So after I beat said ass, I am gonna make him buy the guitar too!

It's crazy isn't it though..........:dunno::confused: This is what the Walmart and the most recent Paypal generation has brought us with their 90 day guaranteed refund window if you are willing to lie after playing/trying out the item for 90 days......

I guess he is not that interested in the guitar then if he isn't willing to drive an hour to check it out, foook him.....I wouldn't meet up with him at all if I were you at this point, he had his chance.

I've had some interested CL parties bitch about an hour drive and then I say I drive up your way all the time to buy stuff. If you aren't willing to drive check it out I'm not Guitar Center. I have known people who lived in Chicago that didn't have a driver's license but again... that's not my fault.
I think PayPal gives you 180 days.

They do, which is why I only do F&F, unless I know the person or have dealt with them before. I once had a guy buy a car part off of me with PayPal, and like 2 days before the end of the window, I get a PayPal charge back on the part and his lie in there was how the part didn't work. He bought a used part, used it, it eventually died, and he came back on me to get his money back.

Sounds about right.
