Id buy one of these. Im sorry folks but I think its a done deal. This is close enough for me. The real deal is on the left and the variplex is on the right.
I think this amp does the VH1 tone and the peacemaker and/or Metro's do the VHII tones pretty well!

Its close enough for me to the original and I think it could be closer with the right guitar, speakers etc etc!!!.

Damn, that guy's playing is wicked.

Who makes that amp?

Dave Friedman and Blankenship over at Rack systems I believe?. The guitarist Is Pete Thorn and he plays in Chris Cornel's band and he is a VH nut to !! very cool guy who adds a ton to the metro forum!!

Sounds really good! It really does sound like the real deal to my ears.

yep, i think Pete's closer than the other guys that have been around longer over there. hell, the crazy part for me is he's nailing with H30's?

the guys over there didn't give the Blankenship much respect when somebody else first posted a clip?

Ralph, have you been following the JBL D120 stuff over there? that Beasty guys clips were pretty convicing for the 120's getting the VH1 tone.

this is one of my favorite clips of a metro doing the VH thing

I dig the metros a lot!! (so much so that I own one!!)
I think the variplex is closer to VH1 and I think that it would kill through that Cab that was used in the youtube vid. The Clip that I posted a link to does not have the correct guitar or speakers but it was close as hell!!

That's pretty cool - the real one on 1 side and the Variplex on the other. That amp definitely is definitely "there" for that tone.

That sounds killer! DonBarzini just got a Blankenship that Dave Friedman did some extra special tweaks to, including a tube buffered effects loop. Even with extra options, it still cost $400-500 less than a Peacemaker with freaking the Dave Friedman working on it?

Hey Brother!!
I think the Blankenship didn't get respect the first time out because of the clips that were posted prior to Petes clips (They were good but not great IMHO...good player to!)

Pete got so scary close with an h30 and the wrong guitar!!

As far as the JBL's I have been following everything on that site lol! See here is the deal. Dave has seen many of Ed's marshalls. IIRC he also has heard the raw tracks of VH1 and there is a mix of a trebley guitar and a regular one. So with that said, I think Daves got the formula down cold! There is also an interview with Steve Stevens where he said he used a modded Marshall by Dave for some of his new album and he swears it nails the old VH tone because Dave put it to that Spec!!

Tell me about it brother!! Have you listened to the new Steve Stevens album? He uses a Friedman modded Marshall on some of his tunes and its has "THE TONE"

The Don told me hoe great Daves work is!!

Speaking of the peacemaker, One just sold for $1325 the other day on the bay. Vic really needs to lower his prices IMHO.

oh yeah, I forgot to mention that no matter how close that sound is, there will still be people bitching that its not close enough :hys:

Well, let me correct myself, donbarzini got the 50 watter and it was priced right in there with the Mojave 50 watter so I guess the pricing is in line. The re-sale on the Mojave stuff is absolutely in the toilet. I've got to get that new Steve Stevens CD.

dave friedman is just a cool down to earth great guy!!i have a ton of respect for him.i think his amp sounds great..check out pete thorns clips of his 5153 amp to,there great too.the guys just a monster of a VH player..
