Well to answer your “solar power” scenario you could simply explain to them how solar power works and it would be a very short conversation. Solar doesn’t work because the sun exists, it works when it is in direct sunlight.

If I was incorrect about my assumptions of your post, then tell me what you meant by it. What do you find hilarious about trying to relate to a parent who’s child went through gender surgery? What am I missing?

On the amp, I have pulled two of the four 6CA7's and lowered the wall with a variac down to 70VAC

The SLO-100 pre-amp I built off the Rob Robinette website layout with help from @CrazyNutz here.

What reactive load did you build? I built a reactive load - I can do simple stuff like that but preamps are too much - out of a "John", IIRC, schematic over at MarshallAmps forum I think. Sounds pretty good but I bought a Waza TAE since then and it;'s been gaining dust.

I built the one based on Randall Aiken's design. Checkout the thread by James Freeman over on TGP.

I added a transformer-driven line-out, and a ground lift switch to the original design.
