Is any amp in the same league as a Wizard?

So which one has hollow mids? If you were referring to me, I am not an amp builder so not my place to justify to you or anyone what is or isn’t worth what is charged. Thats up to the market to shake out.
The MCII and MTL models are the ones I’m discussing, I know he offers a few other variants - I have no experience or anything bad to say about them other than their probable cost.

Trading mids for gain? Who does that? Makes no sense. Gain builds up in the bass frequencies first, so I can see that. Never played an MTL or MCII, maybe those are voiced different.

You’d honestly be surprised what people do to RC filter networks, and you can’t build bass in certain areas without risking blocking distortion or instability. It’s actually fairly challenging to add gain without compromising frequency response. It can get advanced fairly fast. I’m not even attempting to go down the rabbit hole as to why in this thread.

As for my 5150, never had any issues with it at all. Never even changed tubes for the entire 8 years I had it. It has the Sylvania 6l6’s. Cool amp.
I had a few issues with my 5150 II when it was gigged hard. The 5 pin connector was flaky here and there. I’ve always wanted to drill the chassis out and change it to something better but I stopping gigging right around the same time it became a hassle and I never did it. I also had an issue with a BJT cold solder joint on the board that I had to fix. Other than that, I just fed it tubes from normal use. This is over the course of about 8 years, 3 of them gigged hard.

My issues with Marshalls have nothing to do with bias. Always ran them cool since they were always run hard. Heat soak of the transformers. Just had to live with it back then.
I’ve experienced the same issue and the PT itself has the bias winding within it, hence why it does in fact effect bias. The bias can drastically change the characteristics of an amp at gig levels. I too hate a saggy Marshall for my style of playing but I also don’t chase that hiwatt super linear and stiff tone either.

Listened to you clip last nite, sounds good. I don’t go for that much gain, but sounds cool.

Sad part is that the gain on the amp was only on about 5/10. It sounds more saturated at bedroom levels but really fills out at band levels.
