It's about time to change the Wah!

So I've got a True Bypass Vox Clyde V848 wah pedal. I've had it for 3 years, but I've never really warmed up to it.

I think it's a bit shrill sounding and I don't like the fact that the treadle feels a bit loose. Also, if you lightly touch the switch while using it, it tends to cut in and out. - A common complaint with this model, that's not a big problem once you learn to use it though.

I'm thinking:
  • Budda Wah
  • Fulltone Clyde Deluxe
  • VooDoo Lab Wahzoo

What do you guys think?? I want one with a regular 9vDC Negative center power jack. Nothing with a weird power connection.

I had a few Crybabys and a Teese Wizard but my favorite and the one I have now is a Budda Wah. I love it.
I think it does it all well, clean to high gain, very vocal and stands out in he mix. I had the pleasure of hearing a friend use it love and was floored. Lovie it.

I really like my Dunlop Crybaby from Hell. It's probably one of the most versatile wah's i've owned to date. It can do the good blues stuff, rock stuff, metal stuff, and weird oddball stuff! Plus it's camo so it looks way cool too!!!

Does anybody even like the Vox Wah?? I was thinking someone would jump up and defend it! Since I'm thinking of replacing the poor guy! :D

NO! DUMP IT!

I feel like there's a few different "standard" wah tones.

The Vox wah tone: wet, nasally, lots of top end, lots of low end mud too, but very vocal.
The Crybaby wah tone: Less vocal, more of a filter sweep.
The Morley Wah tone: a modern take on the wah sound.

then, take each one of them, and a bunch of different manufacturers that make a TON of different tweaks and variations.

The good thing is that you've had to vox, so you can use that as a good reference point as to what you DO like and what you DONT like about a wah wah tone, and what to look for in your next pedal, ya know?

Good point. I do not like the shrill biting highs. I find myself rolling back my guitar's tone knob to compensate.

So far, the Fulltone and Budda wah are at the top of my list. Everybody's recommendations help confirm this. I'm looking some more into the RMC's too. But, for the price, I think I'm going Budda. The one thing I really like about the Fulltone is that it's got knobs, so I know I can tweak it into something I like.

Matt's Budda wah sounds great. Better sweep, smoother highs. Still vocal as all heck.

Can't go wrong with that one for the money.

+1 for Budda. Had mine for a few years now and love it. Plus its purple and looks awesome.

Hey Matt, one quick question...

The Vox sometimes cuts out while playing if you lightly touch the switch while rocking the treadle. The budda looks to have the same treadle, base and switch. Do you have any problems like that with yours?

Buy a used GCB-95 Crybaby and spend $10-20 (if that) and upgrade it to true bypass, LED, more vocal and dynamic. That's what I did and it sounds amazing. I'll never pay over $100, let alone $200, for a wah again.

I think I know what you are talking about. Its like if you dont fully press the switch to turn it off and on right? I used to get this all the time with my Crybaby, but maybe a couple of times with the Budda in the past few years. Its very rare. I guess for me its basically that I dont step on that thing unless I want to turn it on and when I want to turn it on I STEP ON IT!
