It's almost 2025, who's using Diezel?

I remember many years ago when Diezels were very popular on RT. VH4, Hagen, Einstein, Herbert,... but it's been pretty quiet the last few years.

It seems a number of new high gain amp makers are the current favs, and Diezel's amp line doesn't have new offerings, unlike Bogner...

Back in the day, I went with an Engl rack rig, but it was close between that and a Diezel VH4 rig. Been listening to VH4 and getting GAS, not that I need a VH4 (it's in my Fractal).

So who still has their Diezels, any one else GASing for a Diezel, or planning to get one in the near future? Did you replace a Diezel with something else,...?

Just sold my Herbert Mk3...what an absolute monster of an amp

who are the big diezel endorsees these days? i got into them only because of metallica. seems that the other high gain companies do a better job in the marketing department perhaps?

also i think Diezels are more expensive than the others no?

vh4's always have a processed kind of thing going on i never really dug, ive heard herbert and einstein clips that sound good but not enough for me to want to pull the trigger on one without trying first

I don’t think it’s about endorsement honestly.

When I tried Diezel I had 0 experience, was among first tube amps I tried, I somehow wasn’t as impressed. Something about both VH4 and Herbert wasn’t very “warm tube sound”, kinda like a processor in a way. But take that with a grain of salt, I have zero knowledge even now, let alone then, plus tryout was quite brief, as I already paid for an SLO and went there to pick it up.

And I don’t actually like it on videos now too. Maybe it is the grain that I don’t like, I don’t know.

Still have my Hagen. I love the way it sounds but I miss the feel of the VH4. Previously had an '05 VH4, and I'm on the lookout for another older one. Whenever I get one I will compare with the Hagen, and likely just keep whichever one suits my needs better. I do tend to prefer them blended with something else when recording. I don't hear any amp replacing what the Diezel's do, they're unique enough to at least have one around.

i am digging simon's clips here recently with his vh2, not sure how much different its supposed to be than the 4 but i dont hear the usual vh4 qualities at least in his clips
Simon? Pinch harmonics guy? 😁

He is tuned too low for my tastes. Diezel sound works okay for that stuff though. Still I’d take Hermansson for that lower tuned type of stuff I believe.

No argument here...but it seems people are more used to the Marshall Karang and you wont really find that with a VH4 or Herbert.
What his name (?) on YouTube does crazy good clips and give the VH4 a great JCM 800 tone on channel 2 but it is still missing something.

I havent’t heard a Marshall in my life. So can’t say if it’s that.

I am a simple man, I hear AJFA, I want a IIC++. And Strategy 400.

Are you talking about Zach Wish? zzwish on youtube. I still couldn’t like the sounds on his VH4 demo.

I've always been into Marshall, (and Vox many years ago). For modern high gain I went with Engl...I think many modern high gain have compression/processed sound and stiffer feel vs Marshall and even Mesa (at least my JP-2C).

I sold my Engl E530 preamp, kept my E850/100 power amp, and I don't really have anything I'd consider modern high gain outside of Marshall (e.g., Engl Artist Edition 100 and Bogner Helios Eclipse are marshallesque).

I rediscovered the VH4, but not seeing them talked about like they were maybe 10 or so years ago...I know there are new high gain amps that are the hot topics for discussions, tones and drama (Larry). My gear fund is well depleted, so I have time to find a modern high gain tube amp

Larry was a thing even 10+ years ago, that’s when I heard about them first time.

Actually things haven’t changed much, it’s just people finally got their hands on Diezels, tried for themselves and just chilled, as there was not much left to theorize on. Good thing about Diezels is they are actually available in quantity.

It’s not only the processed sound, I think it’s the grain that I dislike the most. Something just feels off.

I think I’d take an MkIV over VH4 all day anyday, even though I haven’t heard a single Mesa live.

I've always have had a soft spot for the Herbert.
They are beastly amps when loud. But I don't have the need or the wallet for them at present..

I was a Deizel dealer when I used to be a partner at Tone Merchants many years ago..

I owned two VH4's but the Herbert was still my fav...

VH4 and Herbert are still two if the best choices around in the versitile, high-gain category.

Just don't hear them talked about much around here these days...unless I missed the conversations
