i thought with all the hype around that last song id see a lot more discussion about the album that came out this week, but i been busy and not on much so maybe i missed it? anyways, im listening now and i just dont know, i thought the first couple singles just sounded like safe radio rock with a couple promising sounding parts which if made the main parts of the song could have some potential.. i figured, or hoping i guess i should say the rest of the album would be more rocking, and while there are a few scattered quick heavy parts and good solos the album is more "101.3fm todays light rock" than anything actually rocking :dunno: it is performed well and some of the songs are good for what they are, im just not really into Foo rock

You pretty much described exactly why no one wants to talk about it….😂

Lol damn, why am I always the one calling things out for what they are

I don't think people get into albums like we all did back in the day. Too many Tik Tok vids and other garbage that is more important than music.

You’re not wrong, i get distracted myself.. that thrill of finding a new album or even a few great songs on an album is still more exciting to me than scrolling through social media though, and unfortunately this album isn’t gonna distract me from anything.

Ha! I was sort of thinking the same thing as you Race but more along the lines of a bashing on Wolf thread, the son of a man this whole forum worships ironically.

I gave the album a spin at the gym and I liked the first track quite a bit but after that, it’s pretty much what you described. He has a TON of great riffs and ideas but the song structures are boring and repetitive. He’s only on album 2 so maybe he will progress as time and experience go on. I don’t think anyone would argue about the quality of his playing abilities.

I just listened to a few songs and love it! To m3 it is impressive he played all of the music and sang on that. I know it is not metal but great writing and great tones.

It’s pretty good . He lyrical reminds me of the Van Hagar version of the band with his concepts and deep lyrics , but can solo like his dad . But raised on drop d 2000s riffs

Honestly, he’s a talented guy; amazing really. He does everything very well. But his music is derivative. Part of me thinks he’s just grabbing the low hanging fruit and he could be challenging himself more.

Lyrically, it’s kinda like Nickelback. Lots of three word song titles.

I wonder how much input he allows his bandmates to have. If it’s just him, every album will be the VH3 when it could be 1984 with a little friction.

I get your point . He should hook up with some great players to rub against in the writing .

Im not into the formula used .
Just too boring for me.
Im into all genres and can appreciate good music .
JUst not my thing.

on his Coffee with Ola interview .... he said he writes and plays everything .... and only really bounces ideas off of his producer

I was backstage area hanging for a while when they opened for Motley and Def just outside of Dublin, Ireland. Don't love his band all that much, but what a polite, friendly and all around generally nice kid, Was a pleasure talking with him.

radio friendly rock is so dead, corny, and redundant. radio doesn't play anything that is too far in any one direction. can't be too fast, can't be too techy, can't be too heavy, can't be too scream-y, can't be too progressive, etc. i'm shocked ghost got so popular here in the states. of course, they have some super generic sounding stuff too. Guys like wolfgang are trying to shoot for the stars instead of filling a niche, so their music ends up being boring and forgettable, and doesn't really scratch any particular itches, so to speak.

I’ve been listening to it, I’m a sucker for a good ear worm and there’s plenty on there. I’m also partial to the one-man-band aspect of it all and tend to listen from that POV more than anything else, there’s a lot to unwrap from that angle. Dude is a legit player of each instrument he plays, you don’t come up with drum grooves like the ones sprinkled across the album just being a casual “I can play “Highway To Hell” on drums” kinda guy, really cool hearing the Danny Carey inspired.

“Take A Bow” has gotten a ton of listens, the chorus pulled me in right away, good heavy bridge in the context of a song that’ll be played on the radio and then that fucking solo, it’s like a tribute to Vai and EVH’s feel and phrasing without any of the technical “look at me” bullshit.

It’s not going to be my new favorite band or anything, but I’ll definitely keep an eye on this dude as time goes on to see what he pulls out of himself. Being as early as it is in his career and he’s putting out stuff like this, there’s a hell of a lot more he’s capable of and I don’t mind stickin’ around to see what comes of it all.

I think you are right. When I was young, we put on the whole record and listened to it many times and got into the deep cuts etc. Hard to see anyone doing that now. Hell, even I do not do it much. Music was harder to get back then and there was less of it available. I love Spotify and listen to it every day of my life - but the convenience factor has a price.

I haven't heard anything from him so far that I dislike - but none of it blows me away either

I'm not that big of a Van Halen fan. I mean of course I like a lot of the classics and have fun occasionally jamming stuff like Running with the Devil or Panama but I've never understood of chasing the Van Halen tone. I don't think he deserves the shit he gets nor do I think he deserves all the praise he gets. I mean if you dig his music than more power to you. Just not my cup of tea.

I still listen to full albums, not like I did as a teen but I don’t do anything like that anymore. My general Friday afternoon routine is to get out of work, clean up my apartment then officially start my weekend by getting baked while listening to something new. Nothing but my couch, a bong and the stereo.

In some cases it’s definitely still worth it. Other times it just highlights why it’s not such a bad idea for some bands to only release singles. Like Lamb Of God, I love ‘em, but there’s not one album of their’s that I feel needs to be heard in it’s entirety to ‘get’ the album. There’s no theme running through the songs or something connecting the whole album together. I wouldn’t be bummed if they went singles only. Mastodon on the other hand, that’s an album band. You go for a ride when listening to the full album.
