Jake E. Lees' Bark/Ozzy rig

I liked his tone and playing but it was his chording that set him apart for me. He used some very cool shapes. Great player

Yeah, I feel the same way. I also loved how he never played the same fill twice. At least it seemed that way. It was always something a little different and always interesting.

I was listening to BATM and TUS today. I much prefer Jake's tone on TUS. It's more saturated and thick. BATM is very dry and needs a bit more gain, IMHO. The playing is great on both disks.

Jake is my favorite Ozzy player, for sure. So good!

Yeah mine too and I don't know why. I mean Rhoads was probably the better player but I prefer Jake, even though the songs weren't the greatest.
Neither was the Rhoads era tunes though.

Have you heard the version of Bark that is on spotify? don't know who remixed it but it is bloody terrible. There are lots of "different" little solo's on rock n roll rebel that don't even really sound like jake. Centre of eternity and a few others also have different guitar bits that make it a really hard listen

I have appreciated all of the various players Ozzy has had. He has been lucky to have so many great ones. I have to give Zakk some props for his playing on Live at Budokan.

Sounds like you were listening to the 2002 butchred remaster

The 2210 had dual vertical guitar input jacks on the front, so I agree with the others that it appears to be a 2203.

There may have been no overdrives used on the badlands rhythm tone but I don't believe for a second nothing was used in the leads. I am pretty certain he was using od-1's with Ozzy. Listen to those runs and his style. Look at the recent live shows and listen to how much gain he uses. May not be a lot compared to most of you guys but it sure as hell is more than a stock 2203. Anyway a few other guys have already mentioned the dimarzio pedal among others so no secret there. Besides, studio magic also has a role in the tone.

What blows my mind more than anything is the "remastering" of classic material. Is the goal to wipe out all original recordings? (So as not to pay royalties?) would they slowly be replacing all online content? If so, I need to get a hold of the original copies now and store them.

As far as Ozzys remastered stuff Ultimate Sin is probably the hardest to find but what I mean by that is if you go into say a used record/cd store there might might be 10 used copies of Blizzard Of Ozz and maybe 1 copy of The Ultimate Sin. But there`s plenty of copies of Bark At The Moon and Ultimate Sin out there . Look for the 1995 remasters , avoid the 2002 remaster of BATM. Ultimate Sin was only remastered once in 1995 . Blizzard and Diary were remastered in 95, 2002 and again in 2011 , again avoid the 2002 remasters with the re-recorded bass and drums. Hope all that didn`t sound too confusing

Are these JCM-800 2203's ? or 2210's ?

This is Ozzys vocals before pitch correction, harmonizers ... lol :scared:

I've heard some live recordings of Ozzy from back before that stuff and he sounded just fine.

I would argue that Ozzy actually sounds pretty good here. I've heard many boots from before and after this where he sounds much, much worse. He really only sounds bad on "Over The Mountain", where his voice is cracking throughout the song (he always had trouble with singing it live and performed it relatively few times compared to the rest of the songs in this set) The rest sounds pretty decent. "I Don't Know" sounds particularly good, and is vocally probably one of the best live versions I've heard of it. With a better mix & some reverb/delay on Ozzy's voice, this would probably sound better than most of his live albums (remember that the vocals on "Speak Of The Devil" & "Tribute" are all overdubbed).

No one is going to mention the two awesome Lexicon PCM-41's in his rack behind him?

(at least that's what they look like with not a close up shot...)

No way , no how are those stock 2203's , with nothing in front of them. They are either modded of there is a dirt pedal in front of them.

Bark at the Moon was one of those cassettes I played until the tape wore out and broke. What a kick ass album  I need to revisit some of this stuff.

Didn't he use a Boss OD-1?

Jake always used a Boss OD-1 with Ozzy and in the Badlands era he also added a Kasha Quickmod to his amps giving them another 12AX7 preamp gain stage.

I bought back in 86' the VHS tape 'Ultimate Ozzy, which was from the Ultimate Sin tour. I thought his tone was great on that and his solo was incredible. It's the solo where Ozzy pulls the shit out of his hair and Jake is just ripping it up. There's a scene from the solo where Jake is doing some clean playing and the camera zooms in on his hand and he's doing this insane stretch across like 10 frets with his thumb fretting notes up by the nut and his pinky is way up the neck. Super cool. Anyone remember this?
