Damn, I didn't even know JH played a VH4...learn something everyday.
Guess I don't keep up with the Jones's too much.

I get back from Bali on the 10th and will be flying to Abu Dhabi on the 19th to see Metallica again. Some things never change - Hetfield and the rest of Metallica are one of them. You can always count on the boys for a kick ass show.

Im jealous now.

I saw them 3 times.First time was in 2004 with Slipknot and Lostprophets. After that Sonisphere in Switzerland and then Big Four,
Everytime was killer.
We could discuss for hours if not days about their tone changes and song changes or their live perfomances etc. but they are and will be the most succesfull Heavy Metal Band of all time.
I love every Record they made. Some songs are better than the others but every record has its own feel for its own if you know what i mean.

I am a hardcore Metallica fan. I understand creative growth and change ... Ad nauseum, yada yada....

But I hated one disc, actually threw it away. Some songs that were never hits I dug. Devils Dance, Ronnie, but Creeping Death is the litmus test for any amp to play metal.

Someday there may be a D Moll for sale used. It may have enough Diezel DNA to pair with a Mrshall based tone to get that tone from the last disc.

And that concert was killer... Sold out arena show on a Sunday night.

Devil's Dance was my formal introduction to the chugga when I was 12. Unlike anything I'd heard to up to that point. I think I'm one of the few that adored Reload as much as I did.

You can get a really good idea of the Diezel and Mesa tone in this video.

Load didn't do a damn thing for me.

Ride the Lightning?? TOTALLY different kettle of fish

They have not made a good record since Justice. Fact. It all went sour for me when James started singing "OOOH YEEEEAH!".

Also, although I love the VH4, their best (and signature) tone was the IIC+.

Let's add some fuel to this fire...I think St.Anger wasn't half bad, at least there were some decent songs on it and lots of the hate just comes from the fact it's not Metallica-like but different. Now they should know better than to ever go out of their comfort-zone again...
Or maybe I just have a soft spot for trashy art (no h).

I like all of them. Listening to S&M right now by the pool in Bali. It's popular to join a side that says Metallica died after MOP. But, I like them all, commercial or not. Sure, some I prefer to listen too more, but it's all good. There will never be another band with this longevity and enough cred to fill arenas year after year. You have to remember, a lot of us grew up with those guys and are of the same age. There musical style through the years said a lot about where they were at certain times in their lives. I will say hey to them on April 19th for you....

Disclaimer: No more fucking LULU though!

Aye steve!

Fun fact: "lulu" in German is the equivalent word to a child saying "peepee" in English. (so maybe Kirk picked the name? hehe)

And: James Hetfield expressed understanding of "fearful people", who are "typing from their mom’s basement that they still live in", stating that the band needed "to spread our wings" and try something new, while Reed stated that the album is for "literate people".

Here is a prime example of what I just grazed earlier, what I think is now fundamentally frakked up about them.
