With diode clipping, I like it before. With additional tube stages, I like it after. I've not tried using both, though... Or hell, why not use a pre-stack master, a post-stack master, AND a PPIMV hhaha. Plus two gain control and you've FIVE volume/gain controls

Pre tonestack masters do not play well with cathode followers IMO.

There is an old Chris Merren post in the ether somewhere and he recalls an actual Jose with 4x MPSA06s arranged B-E-E-B. The base-emitter order shouldn’t matter, just make sure two are one polarity and two are the other. I liked this more than straight zeners but I’m not a big zener clipping fan. To me that arrangement was noticeably more saturation and volume reduction than 2x 20v zeners.

I have some 15v Zeners.. You can run them in series to double the voltage for say 30volts..
I'll try these in my little 5 watt deal.

Did you get Bleeders on those Filter Caps??

Agreed.

It’s all how you voice the amp. I’ve done lots of A/B testing with post and pre masters in the same amp. Neither is inherently better, just different. With diodes, pre tone stack is usually better.

Why yes I do Spider..............I built on last year, it works great.
