Joe Satriani and Steve Vai hire Pete Thorn, Marco Mendoza and Kenny Aronoff for new their new touring band

Cool.

There is more to excellent guitar playing or musicianship than shredding my brother.

i dont dispute that one bit, all i'm trying to say is that compared to his usual gigs, this is a step up.

satch and vai are leagues above those other musicians (all of whom i hold in high regard). i take lessons with dave weiner (backup guitarist for vai for 20 some years or whatever)...and the level of musical knowledge he talks about to be in vai's band is insane.

i think you could get by with a whole lot less with all those other musicians pete has worked with. pete deserves all the success that is coming his way cause he works hard, but it will be interesting to watch if he can pull this off. not saying he can't, just that its outside of his usual.

It's a step up, but I'm sure he is regulated to playing rhythm guitar, much like the 2nd guitar players in Vai's or Satriani's regular bands.

for sure he'll be rhythm guy, but i wonder if they'll let him come out for the jam and maybe partake and perhaps even even give him a chance to play his solo stuff?

it's a big step imo...from hired gun to YT demo guy to entering the solo guitar music realm alongside vai and satch. it's cool to see because not many get to that level ever!

Yes, Vai is a genius. That goes without saying. Satriani is a guitar legend. I love both and have for many years.

That said, I think you’re being pretty harsh on Pete. The guy does that VH tribute with Mitch something and absolutely nails it. His time, his swing, his feel. It’s all there.
I work professionally in the UK and European scene and know people that work with Pete regularly. The guy can hang.

i guess time will tell, he's got big shoes to fill afaik

i was just stating my opinion on it being a step up from what he has been doing

wish him nothing but success

Via is genuinely creative but genius, not so much.

Libtards are the supporters of the orange ape, which want to make USSA the same again or the other ones ? :) It is not clear on the other side of the pond...

All I’m saying is, I’m not sure some of you here stating that he won’t be up to it realise how good you need to be to do those high level gigs.

Pete slays it.

That guy writes an original song for every demo, and the majority of those songs are pretty damn enjoyable.

I’m sure that him and I would not get along if we were talking about politics. That’s definitely not what I go to his channel for so who gives a shit?

There’s no way in hell 99 1/2% of anybody reading this would do the prep work to get into the Don Henley band or the Chris Cornell band. That requires work. Even if I didn’t sacrifice 55 hours a week for the gig that I have, I still wouldn’t put the time in to learn all those songs and compete at that level.

Disagree. He’s a true trailblazer in that world. Would I want to listen to it every day? Definitely not. But still.
What is the definition of “musical genius”?
His music - although creative- is very unrelateable.
At least Ed wrote short songs about girls and partying and teenage angst- things that listeners can identify with… songs the listeners can SING along too.
It was more of a band effort, and the call and response synergy made it all the more likeable.

Steve is egomaniac. I’ve met the guy in person. He’s kind of a douche.

I think he should keep his political views to himself, otherwise I like his demos and playing.
I own a Pete Thorn Suhr!
to be fair, isnt he from the 51st state? I love his playing and videos. plus he gave me and my wife after show passes so she could meet Chris Cornell at one show he did with them back in the day. all I could think of was a stupid comment on how good his komet Concorde rig sounded. I hate meeting people.

I didn’t say he was a genius songwriter. I think he operates musically on a different level to the large majority of people who ever play music.

Does that make me want to listen to his music? Not really. I appreciate it for what it is but it doesn’t move me, I agree.

I have think a musical genius’ has the ability to both captivate and appeal to large groups of people regardless of class. A good song is a good song. Einsteins work changed everything for everybody as did Ed’s.
