Just make reasonable offer

A potential buyer tries to make me feel sorry for him, you know he really wants this guitar because reasons, but he doesn't have enough to buy it because reasons...so somehow I should be a charity?!

Next, he asks if I can reduce the price. I respond: I'm open to reasonable offers.

Next, he asks what's the lowest I can go. I respond: what's the highest you can go.

Now, let's see his next move, if any.

If a seller is accepting offers, make one, make a reasonable offer. I'd say 20% - 25% off the asking price, unless it really is overpriced, is a good start, I'd likely counter with 10%-15% off. IMO.

I'm trying to be nice.

When he asked what's my lowest price, I almost responded with my asking price.

If I get a low-ball offer, I may take that amount and add it to my asking price as a counter-offer. :D

...just trying to be nice.

Bargaining is a lost art.
FWIW, the other day I listed an amp for sale. I had 3 scammers right off, and one person offer me half price. He persisted after I told him he could get the footswitch for that much. Finally had to block him. People suck.

When buyers ask how low can I go, I first break out the Your mama’s so fat jokes before progressing to the inbred themed ribticklers.
I like when I specify no trades and they ask if I’m looking for trades. I tell them sure! I’ll trade for any combination of US currency that equals my asking price.

Or, I love when I say firm and they offer xxxx Cash!! I’m like, cash? I was kind of holding out for box tops, USPS forever stamps or Target gift cards.

I see mediations that settle faster for millions and then you got Joe hanging on to his Charvel Model 6 over $150. It’s funny. But I get it; totally guilty.

what is your lowest price is a dumb question. I ignore it.

Screw the games. List it reasonable to begin with and specify firm. The back and forth for both parties is a complete time waste. It a buyers market, so set the price as low as you go and advertise as firm.
When I do that (list at a reasonable price to sell; firm, not accepting offers) I still get asked if I would be open to offers.

I usually ignore the unreasonable or just plain ridiculous offers/questions.

Clearly, trying to be nice isn't helping.

that was an option, but I was trying to be nice...knowing he's unlikely to make a reasonable offer.
what is your lowest offer is followed by lowballing the lowest offer. The thing is, it is like going out to fuck a woman.
If you see a price, it doesn't matter. You ask what the lowest they will go is. They say something that is enough for them to make a profit still, and you low ball them by 100 to 250 less and they consider it. By answering, you are at a disadvantage to begin.

My friend was way better at picking up women than me, though I was way better looking. He talked to a girl and bought her a drink. Immediately, he got her phone number. As soon as he got her phone number, he sent a dick pic. If she continued talking to him, he knew that she put out. If she acted weird, he just weeded out a waste of time. It is fucking genius.

These guys that do that low ball shit are pros, like my friend. They are never going to pay the price you ask. You are not the only one they are looking at. They do it in mass, and they acquire gear for pennies. I used to do the pro thing on reverb. Bought low as fuck and sold at very nice profit when it wasn't good enough to keep in the stable

Everyone has a sob story. Getting a divorce….. just had surgery…… lost my job……just had Covid….
Suck it up and deal with it like a man and stop crying.
We all have a story to tell. Most people don’t give a shit about it.

I love those guys...not.

"I need two of your speakers, will you price match what MF sells Celestions for?"

Da Fuq did you say? :D

If someone asks me some iteration of “what’s your lowest price?” I will say the price is firm and leave it at that. I’ve never had anyone ask me that question and then buy what I’m selling.
