So is the radius on a FR 12deg like your fretboard, or is it 14 like a Schaller, or 10 like a Fender for that matter? Also, what the heck do they mean by C or D shaped?

FYI - it's a radius, measured in inches, not a degree. ;)

D'oh I knew that lol! I've been wanting to build a super strat because no one really makes them with a 24.74" scale. I would probably go with a 14" radius because Schaller trems are 14" IIRC. I just don't know what nut width to go with to make the strings run straight down the neck. Once I figure that out, I'd probably be pretty close to ordering a neck and body. I'm kinda a perfectionist, and want to make sure I get it JUST right before ordering.

Actually, there is a Super Strat with a 24.75 scale. Check out the Jackson Fusion line. They come in USA and Japanese models. I just got one from chrisguitars.com a few weeks ago. Mine is the Fusion Professional (Japan). Real MOP inlays/logo, subtle flamed top, active wah circuit, and the JT-590 trem. The trem is really a Schaller Floyd and both are interchangeable with each other. Here's the website shots of mine:

That's a nice Jackson, but I don't want a pointy. I want a regular Strat head, but in reverse. I guess I'm being picky, but /shrug.

I really like the idea of this. Nice looking guitar!

Maybe I need to do some research, but can you answer this:

Could I get a Strat with Gibson style bridge and tail, Mahogany body and neck with an ebony board going the route you did?

I would love to have a black strat with white pickguard with the above general specs....

Warmoth lists it as one of their bridge routing options for their Strat bodies. Also, Warmoth and Musikraft offer Mahogany necks. So you should be able to put one together the way you listed.

Thanks Tony. You should definitely be able to get those options.

Oh, I did want to comment that does look really cool! I'm seriously researching building one now, thanks!  Musikraft, Warmoth.... any others I should look at?

I wonder how much business Fender loses to builds like this? I mean, if they had a custom order shop that was affordable and gave you a wide range of real options, they might sell a bunch more guitars, specifically to people like myself that may not care for their "standard" necks, pickups, bridges, colors, etc.

Seems like Fender is too busy making itself into Wal-Mart........buying the competition and removing the uniqueness of a different point of view, and rebranding mass-produced Chinese crap.

So Tom, how was the neck angle right out of the box? Any sanding or filing? Shims?

I want to do one at some point but mish mashing different companies and getting a good fit seems slim to none.

Neck angle is fine. No need for sanding or shims. There was about a 1/16'' gap to where i could shift the neck towards the low E or high E, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The neck itself was straight as hell. In fact, it was a bit too straight for my personal tastes. It had a touch of an overbow until the strings were on it. Since Mark likes stronger tension strings, it straightened out once the tension got on it. I'm willing to bet it'll straightened out more as tension is left on it, too. The gap measured at the 9th fret was about a few pieces of paper's thick (2 or 3), but nowhere near business card thick. I was too lazy to put my feeler gauges on it and measure it since there was really no need.

Overall, I just did a quick setup for him and shipped it to him ASAP. I know he really wanted the guitar. The only way for me to do a "proper" setup would be to have it at my house for a week or so and really let it break in, get used to the string tension, etc.
