King of Clone 68 pedals kicks pretty hard!

LoL I guess it is! Now how long before the more perfect version fetches 1600$ because the guy who makes them gets arrested by the chinese government for mining bitcoin and the pedals stop circulating???? Then it really will have been "perfect"!

I saw that comparison before, it's VERY close. Close enough for me to get a sense of whether or not I would want to spend all that for the real deal. For that reason alone it is always going to be worth it. But if there is a diff, it is in the original having a bit more grit and the copy being a tad more notched in honky mids and hi-fi sounding. If the original was reasonably priced, I think that would be the one that lasts on the board. But really, this is being really picky and listening outside of a mix.
Ha! Methinks the harder it is to get, the better it "sounds" for some mysterious reason.

Hey Kapo, good news. Check out this vid:

He's got that green Ly-rock board in his. In the comments, he mentions that he prefers it over the actual 68 with the extra switches. He says the ly-rock is more "consistent" (not clear exactly how that is though). IIRC, he says he had the 68, but sold it because those switches were "useless" to him, making the tone "dull" when turning down the drive.

It appears that yours is the "more perfect" one after all. :giggle:

There are treble pots inside the unit.... I'm willing to bet this guy doesnt even know that.

Did you guys see LY-Rock also sells a clone of the KSR Ceres?

He's got a ton of shit for sale. Every pedal known to man cloned. I am ok with it but sort of feel the ripping off of the pedal graphics and making it look like the original is a bit shady because these will get reselled by people at higher prices no doubt on craigslist or other to unsuspecting buyers.

ewill52, could you post the link for buying the duelist clone? I can't seem to find it offered by 68pedals. Maybe because I'm using ebay.ca
OK, I figured out where to find it.

Much appreciated, ewill52! I also found it on the other thread that you were on.

I've just realized though that his looks exactly the same as the original inside AND outside

Yes my clone clone is definitely well built with good components from what I can tell so there is "some" sort of standard among the cloners depending if they are small builders or big builders like Caline. The Caline probably sounds good too though. In the mix who will really know.

FWIW, I have a Caline Orange that sounds better than the BB Preamp that it knocks off. It might be a tad bit noisier but way more aggressive sounding.

DemonFX has a bunch of knock off OD pedals too.

Demon FX Pedals

so I got my Duelist. It's legit. Fantastic pedal, extremely well made inside and out. Very versatile, stacks well, very cool pedal! Sounds fantastic! Will probably go back and get the KOT clone.

Hey right ont!! nice to hear! I ordered a 68 pedals KOC from ebay..only to find out when it arrived that it was a clone of a clone of a clone hahahaha. not a 68 pedals confirmed by Bin himself so his pedals must be good if they are also being cloned ;) The KOC i got does sound good but has the green board on the inside and is missing the Normal/high switches so it may be of inferior quality? I contacted the ebay seller and told him off. He is refunding me a partial payment and im keeping the pedal...so I just ordered directly from Bin Wang of 68 pedals a King Tone Duellist. If its close to the real thing in tone its a steal of a pedal at a fraction of the cost...

Yeah good ole chinese IP theft. It's great for the guys who worked their entire lives developing stuff just to get ripped off by people with absolutely no sense of innovation who can only copy. But hey, I'm glad the pedal sounds good.
2 plus year wait list and $700 on the used markets ads to the “opportunists” taking advantage of the market. That said, the pedal industry is the worst when it comes to lack of transparency and most pedals on the market are “mostly” copies of other pedals, with new quirky names and cosmetics and some insignificant component changes. The problem for me is in the packaging and the name of the pedals on top of copying the circuit. The KoT is heavy based on the blues breaker pedal, stacked and a few tweaks.

The Browne Protein seems to be the next stacked popular pedal. Basically a modded Nobels odr1 on 1 side and the modded bluesbreaker on the other

I opened mine up, i'm not an engineer, but this thing looks exactly like the real thing. the board even says Duelist...wondering if it's the same board lol

at 399$ looks promising to fetch upwards of 1000$+ in a year when the wait times increase! Booyah! That's a smart investment if ever there was one.

My china clone sort of sits in a box now. Back to the Bonsai overdrive on it's ODR-1 seting, the cusack screamer which all of a sudden I like again, and a modded YJM 308 overdrive.

Yeah Bin Wan sent me some pictures of the duellist he builds and it looks pretty darn good!

Im not against cloning myself I mean like you said every pedal has been cloned in some way or another...there is no way I would wait 4 or 5 years for a pedal thats crazy...and the used prices for AM KOT just insane and to me not worth it...I had a Ceriatone Horsebreaker and sold it because the Klon tone was just not for me and I wasnt all that fond of the bluesbreaker tone from the horsebreaker either..the 68 pedal KOC clone of a clone I bought on ebay last week actually is more musical to my ears with my amp (Ceriatone OTS HRM 100) so to each his own.

And you are right the packaging on these clones could be changed a little out of respect for the original builder...but the 68 pedals duellist will sure look good on my pedal board ;)

I see there is one used on the for sale adds, have half a mind to buy it, send to am and have him see how close it is and then run it over with his car when he is done analyzing it. :)
