Lol, I don't need to even watch this to know how it is going to go....... Shenker must of had a good laugh over this.

A friend of mine was there. Regardless of how we all think that Schenker is the better player, which he is, Kirk's tone apparently killed Schenkers.

Schenker's sound definitely seemed to cut through better than Kirks' (on TV at least) .

Both tones were fine. I was just depressed that Kirk once again fulfilled all promise of true WTFness. You're the lead player in the biggest metal band in the world? WTF. You think you're in the same key as the other guy? WTF. I guess I'm always hoping that I'll see him rip out some improv that makes me realize, he's killer and like anyone, just got caught in some bad moments but officially it's a done deal. He cannot improvise. Schenker immediately off the top of his head plays something decently melodic and interesting (probably on autopilot) and Kirk starts up and takes me back to my visit to Guitar Center today...

Kirk is a nice and humble dude, constructs a solo like a SOB when he has time in the studio. I can't play a lot of the solo's he did as I'm a typical, let the left hand do the work while the right hand picks every now and then ( like the way Lars does kick on fast beats ;) ) but he should not be caught doing off the cuff stuff….ever..

I loved the guest player Wizard amp tones.

Yeah, sounded great...especially with that white LP Custom! Wasn't that blown away by the playing, but great tone alright.

I think MS has a really unique style of pentatonic wankage. It seems like they just plugged in and jammed. Surely better than any of you forum lords.. How long would you need to prepare to pull off an equal showing??

I really don't get statements like these or whom they are even directed at? No one here is obligated to prove anything to anyone. It's simply a matter of "taste" .....not everyone will see everything the same way. What's the point of calling people out here, when it will never change their mind regardless. I'm struggling to understand your reasoning?

I found a vid. Discuss..

Kirk "out-of-key" Hammett sounds like he's playing a Strat with EMG pickups... Thank God he didn't show up with his wah pedal. :salute:

Was Michael Schenker carrying a purse?

Ok, I'll say it. Yes, i could have, off the cuff, played better, (as in phrasing and staying in key) in that style over those chords. Especially as it was basically a UFO riff and Kirk should have Schenkers riffs and rhythms in his DNA by now right?....and yes, I mean i could have done it on TV standing next to Michael Schenker.

Plus have you even heard a lot of the forum lords. They'd tear most people a new asshole on guitar. Where I am but a lowly Forum squire.

That demonstrated why shenker is Prob my favourite player ever. His phrasing and timing and swing. So amazing. His tone in my opinion was better than kirks. Kirk does suck but you know what? He met his idol and seemed really genuine. I think I will cut him some slack. I did notice him telling shenker in a round about way to go back to his old marshalls lol. Guess MS and Nkrumah just like the 2205 s too much.

Was MS's Marshall modded ? looks like a few extra knobs there.. could be wrong though.

And yes, I also agree that MS just has "IT." Smoother and better phrasing. Kirk wasnt that bad though. Seemed out of key here and there.

I read somewhere a while back, and I forget the exact name of what its called, but the instructor was basically saying that as long as your in time, you can play in another key, not related to the progression, and still have it musical. I tried and it doesnt really seem so to my ears..

Man Schenker just slays. Really cool. Kirk....was Kirk I guess. Would seem to make sense to play the solo in the same key as the song but he's in one of the biggest bands in the world and I play in bars for 50 people at a time...soooooo...what the fuck do I know lol.

I think MS needs a Friedman Signature, or just get him a Small Box. :)

People get too hung up on the technical side of playing. All I care about is does the playing sound pleasant to my ears. Both of these guys really delivered for me. Can't say that about a lot of the technical players out there, including most of the "guitar lords" on forums like this. Give me 5 minutes of Vai and I've had enough. I could listen to these two for hours.

Regardless of how many albums you've sold or how many people you play in front of shouldn't everyone take notes from MS if he was talking?

Great episode.. I enjoyed all of it. MS is fantastic and Damons Wizard tone was great.

I think they both sounded pretty good for just jamming with really no practice or set jam. I thought the coolest part was Kirk being so excited about jamming with his idol Schenker. To be in one of the biggest bands in the world and still be that genuine and excited is great IMO. Even with all the flack Kirk gets he is still probably one of the most down to earth, humble players around.

I notice on this video, MS discusses his technique with the V, and how it helps his vibrato. Kirk seemed like he wanted to take notes.

I'd hate to think there is anyone out there dumb enough to break the headstock off of their guitar, but then... :scared:

I predict guitars with broken headstocks will double in price, which will of-course lead Gibson USA to marketing Custom Shop "Broken Headstock" model guitars.

I agree with Michael's take on the Flying V, but I think it's the lack of material at the top of the body is what makes them comfortable to play. As far as it improving hand vibrato... I don't get the correlation?

That behind the jam video was absolutely killer. I loved the whole thing. The jam which is a chord progression Kirk threw out that's strikingly similar to UFO's Natural Thing, and the fact that Kirk was so digging playing and talking with one of his idols.

I know Kirk gets a lot of crap on the forums and that everyone here could "do it better" than him, but he really seems like a good dude.

Great vid.
