I’m not a gigging musician, so these are all home rigs:
1) Engl Savage 120 -> Emperor 4x12 with Eminence Governors and Tonkers in an X pattern
What I like about this rig is that the Tonkers add some of the punch that I feel the Savage 120 lacks in the low end when you’re not cranking it to crazy loud levels.
2) Engl Fireball 100 -> Orange closed back 2x12 with English Celestion V30s
This is the opposite of the Savage rig, as the Fireball has too much lows, but with well broken in V30s, it sounds like a fire-breathing monster without the mud that you might get on bassier speakers.
3) Mesa Boogie Quad -> Rectifier Stereo 2:100 -> Orange 2x12
I really love this rig, it’s super powerful, with a Mark IIC and a Mark III in one preamp. What gives it a unique twist is the Recto power amp, which gives you a very “punched in the gut” kind of tone. I pair it with the Orange because I think the V30 speakers are a better complement to the Mesa sound.
4) PRS Archon 25
If I was a gigging musician, this would be one of the rigs I’d consider, as it’s very portable and sounds good too. The cleans are sparkly and it has a Rectoish kind of gain going on, though more modern and tight.
5) VHT Valvulator GP3 -> Fryette PS-2 -> Emperor/Orange
Still not quite sure which cab I prefer with this one, as it’s still new to me, but it is one brutal amp. Need to get rack ears so I can mount the PS-2 inside the 4U rack I have for the GP3. With three channels - all of them quite good - I can see this being a desert island rig.
For effects in all the rigs, I have an Axe FXIII wired into the loop which also allows me to send a signal to my computer with an IR or Dynacabs baked in. The Axe FX is the best processor I can think of for guitar short of a refrigerator full of gear, effects are so good that I am looking to sell all my pedals.
Not a lot of variety in my guitars - an ESP custom shop RZK-II, a OD Guitars Venus 6, a Sweden custom shop Strandberg Boden 8, a Caparison Horus HGS and an ESP Ltd JH-600EC.
They all get plugged in at some point of time or another. If I was gigging, I’d always leave the RZK-II at home, the rest are better choices as I wouldn’t be heartbroken if they got dinged.
