I meant on my amp. What tubes you got ?
So you got beautiful natural sounding sqeals out of your VH2 opposed the the crippled pinches i'm getting - no matter what i do?
I only had this issue with one (or 2) other Amp(s) so far. I only remember the Laboga Mr. Hector right now.
Factory. Same with the Marshall. Cheap Marshall branded tubes which are perfectly fine. I never went down the tube rabbit hole. I used to use JJs for a while, which are also perfectly fine.

I didn’t have and problems . I like the 6l6s in it best .

uh oh, I think I know exactly what you mean, lol. :censored: That amp could have used a presence control IMO.

I can appreciate a good squeal. 🐷
I use pinch harmonics all the time.
So, I feel you Simon.

Thought we were talkin about preamp tubes, because the power amp tubes have absolutely nothing to do with it... Doesn't matter. I got it sorted out.

It's a preamp issue. But the Mr. Hector lacks some control, that's right.

Praise the Lord! 🙇‍♀️🙏
I got it sorted out. I had the same problem with the D-Moll. I had to boost it beyond usable Levels of gain, then it squealed like crazy in a good way, or at least in a way i like it.
What’s your take on the VH2 vs DMoll?

What’s your take on the VH2 vs DMoll?
Didn't have the Chance to play the VH2 loud after i figured it out yet. The D-Moll is probably a bit more brutal, a bit more grainy with more bass and highs, but also a bit plasticy in the sound and feel. I have to say, that the older DMolls sounded better than the new ones. Maybe it's just me, but i have the suspicion they also changed the Dmoll a little around the time the Herbert MK3 came out. I prefered my Dual REV D that i had back then to the MK3. Just more organic. The VH2 sounds a bit more organic and rounder than the Dmoll. Really like an inbetween of channel 3 and 4 of the VH4. Pretty good channel if it hadn't the "Pinch-Problem". It has harmonics, but it's also a bit choked in the overtones. I'd say it's voiced for standard tunings. But you can boost it like crazy. I made another clip with the gain on 10, Duality DX Red Channel in front, cranked TS side of the pedal, plus a clean boost with TC portion of it. :D But it wasn't overly loud when i recorded it.

Thanks for the info! How about the DMoll compared to the Herbert MKIII? Because that’s probably what I’m getting next. FWIW I think the DMoll kicks ass, especially with a boost.

I've AB'ed a Dmoll with a Herbert MK2 and the Dmoll to me sounded like a not as good Herbert. I think I liked the MK1 Herbert more fwiw over the MK2 and 3

Interesting, the MkIII seems more appealing to me just based on the fact that it’s supposed to be tighter and more modern sounding. I haven’t played any of them though.

I admittedly never AB’ed the different MK Herbert’s, but don’t remember the MK3 being tighter or more modern really, but maybe I’d hear that if AB’ed. I remember it seeming it a bit darker

Something does sound a little off about them, almost like there's a coil split enabled.

Yes, the DMoll is pretty cool with a boost. I never played them side by side. But i made a straight in clip comparing the Rev D to the Herbert MK3 on low volume:

Kinda like here. It has nothing to do with personal skills, but how the Amp recreates the pinches.
I often thought: How could he play a sound that pinches crappy?

I've played an amp or two where they just didn't resonate right, or something to that effect.

I can't really explain it, but harmonics that would sing on most just weren't quite there. I'd experienced lower gain amps or distinct voicings that made my right hand technique have to be more spot on, it wasn't really that either. At the end of the day, it was never an amp I owned & the music I play isn't really dependent on harmonics like that, so I never looked too deeply into it.

You got it! That's exactly what i mean. Thanks. ;) For me, if an Amp doesn't do it "right" it's kinda broken.

High gain amps that are super compressed are the ticket for crazy harmonics

I agree, Simon, somethings sounds wonky, almost like it’s out of phase, like two extremes, fighting each other, both getting choked… If that makes sense.

How close is your pickup to the strings?
