Lets talk high-end guitar cables...

How about Van Der Hul or Vovox? These are high end cables. I don't think George L's are high end. They definately are great for the price as is Mogami. I know there is a big difference in sound that is far better with cables like the two I mentioned, but the damn price is very high.
I notice more touch sensitivity and clarity. It was like taking cotton out of my ears. The way I look at it is you can't miss what you never heard. I wish I had never tried them, but I am use to my Fulltone cable again. I probably will buy one of those cables in the future. With the way things are going, I have to hold on to my money for now. :(

I'm thinking of making my own cables. Who makes the best bang-for-the-buck cable, and the best 1/4" jacks? I'm looking for something that will do well with longer runs and doesn't get tangled easily.

I've got George-Ls on my pedalboard and they rock, but like many others feel, the cable is too thin for a guitar (and as much as I love the solderless jacks, I don't trust them in a guitar with on-stage antics).

Should I be looking at Mogami? Anyone else?

It's preference---

Mogami (This is what I use in my big rig)
Canare (I make my own with Canare too. Cool cable- A bit of a pain to work with, but a good cable)
Evidence Audio, Van Der Hul, etc... (Nice cables, but expensive)
Belden (I use this for speaker cable)

I'm not a George L fan, and definitely not a fan of solderless ends

I have some Canare and Mogami I made... prefer the Canare, have some GepcoXB something or other that has the same pf rating as George L's, so it should be a tiny bit brighter than the Canare.

One thing that is kinda interesting IMHO on the canare is that they state in the documentation it can be used as a speaker cable. *!* I don't have the sack to try it though.

I use some monster cable 10 awg for my speaker cables. I paid almost nothing for it at a store called Princess auto. It was about $.50 / ft!!!! I put that to some G&H megafoot ends http://www.ghplugs.com/mf.html Complete, and total overkill especially for my 20 watt amp   I am planning on buying 100' of Canare CS6 and some of the standard G&H plugs.

Weird

I'm using the soundrunner stuff. It sounds GREAT! (Extra large plugs are required though :( )

I'm using the vovox it sounds great very flexible and doesn't tangle or get twisted.

Wchich jacks? It's easy, Neuktrik

Which cable? It's harder question :)

Soundwise I love Evidence Lyric, but they too expensive, too stiff
and really hard to get bulk in Europe.

For now I am set on Sommer Grindycop Beast + Neutrik plugs.
Great cable, thinner than most and really flexy.

I have also used (and some still use) cables like Sommer Spirit XXL, Klotz La Grange and they are good cables. Cordial makes also good cables too.

check out Brian @ Colossal Cables.... they're cables are insanely good , and he is a super super cool dude....

+1 Brian has worked at Bogner for about 5 years wiring up their cabs. He also used to play guitar in my band, killer tone especially since he's really a drummer!

I've been really happy with the Canare GS-6. Trying to decide between GS-4 or Mogami 2319 for wiring my rack up. Mogami is about $.06 cheaper @ redco, but I like the copper of Canare. Anyone know what Mogami uses for metal in their cable? doesn't matter I guess, more guys tend to go with Mogami it seems.

What the hell does 100% oxygen free really mean(Canare description)? Canare is super flexible too, they wrap up real nice and easy.

Check out the GepcoXB20UB cable - around the same price as the Canare, sounds a tiny bit better. I made a cable with canare and Gepco, same length, same connectors for comparison.

Both blew a cheapo guitar center braided cable into the weeds :D

Imho Vovox offers the best bang for the buck. Anything with silver in it will yield great (better?) results most of the time.

+1. I love my Colossal Modern Classic. It's light, and lays on the floor better than any cable I've used. Doesn't tangle, isn't stiff, and has a real cool covering. Great sound too.

Having worked with both of those, they both have pros and cons.

Canare:
1. sounds great
2. solder sticks really easily (seems easier to adhere than Mogami)
3. wraps nicely, flexible
4. must deal with braided shield, (not too big of a deal)

Mogami:
1. sounds great
2. strips more easily than Canare
3. shield not braided, easy to work with
4. wraps nicely, flexible

Overall, it's a toss up. why not buy both, and do a comparison. I'm sure you could find a buyer if you find you prefer one over the other.

I prefer Canare GS-4. I would buy a couple hundred feet of this right now without batting and eye. It even sounds decent as a main cable. Great stuff!
