With an already strained relationship- but if a cheap shit. He didn’t need to include that and could have just left it out.
 
This is beyond ridiculous. Im sure the label also had some say on this too. Theres a lot of dirty laundry out there on Dave, and I hope some of it comes to light
 
Because he cheated on his wife? Maybe I don’t know all the details, but I thought that was pretty standard fair?
 
It's hard to tell with Mustaine. Even sober he seems to have his fair share of volatility. I think the thing with Ellefson just gave Mustaine an opportunity to do what he was already leaning towards, with the cover of Ellefson's "scandal".

he hasn't been sober in years. He still drinks. I saw an interview not too long ago about how he drinks wine with his dinner and has a beer named after the band yata yata.
 
I usually dont give 2 shits about things like this but this really irks the fuk out of me. David has stood by Mustaine during way worse behaviour. If the lady was a consenting adult then this is a family matter. Megadeth is as much Ellefson as it is Mustaine's. Name one song during the years Ellefson wasnt in the band? Or better yet think of your favorite megadeth songs then put your run of the mill root note riding thrash bassist on it. The bass lines are just as important as the rhythm guitars imho when it comes to this band.
 
I don't know if I see it as cancel culture but sounds like Dave isn't giving a guy he has known for what 35-40 years? Any sort of breaks. He's even saying in the statement that he could give a shit about any of the facts and is cutting him loose because of the "strained relationship". Maybe they've worked together and known each other for too many years and he just doesn't approve of his life decisions. If you are going to keep at it this long maybe you do need to respect the people you work with.

Now the flip side, way to ditch your pals Dave! Also, Ellefson was a huge part of their sound and I personally have no interest in seeing Mustaine barely grunt through a show with a bunch of robots with no feel.
 
Megadeth was so fucking great back when it was new compared to a lot of bands like Anthrax, Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Sepultura, Kreator, which were all great but, Megadeth, they were up there or better than Alice In Chains, Metallica, Merciful Fate, and Slayer. My friend had a poster stating that Megadeth was the most intelligent band or something like that and it was true. The music was well done IMO.

Dave is a crybaby and a well documented douche bag to his employees, that is why nobody sticks around for too long with David being the exception. Did Ellefson get arrested? This makes me think not -

The unnamed woman’s statement reads: “I’m the girl people are talking about in the posts about David Ellefson right now and I just want to tell my side of the story because people are sharing misinformation and the situation is getting out of hand without the truth being out there.

“Yes, those video calls did happen, but I was the one to initate [sic] them and never was I underage, I was always a consenting adult. Nothing inappropriate ever happened before that. It was all consensual, I’m not a victim and I have not been groomed in the slightest as I was the one to initiate it. I was just naive enough to record him and share it with a friend without his permission.

She continued: “In the end, it was all consensual and all online. I don’t know how it got to this point, but a lot of information is being left out by the people purposely trying to harm him. I would ask that anyone sharing these personal private videos or any misinformation about them to please stop.”

Kind of a lot to reply to but wanted to add a couple of thoughts I had.

Obviously I cant speak for anyone, let alone the Daves. When I first read this, cheating on his wife was exactly what I thought and maybe I dont have all the details either. Hypocrisy? Maybe.

I did however end up seeing the memes roll in. One of them was the cover of Rust in peace with him shirtless holding what could appear to be his dick hump8hg the skeleton on the cover. The title was renamed Bust in Peace hahah.

So I am now putting the puzzle together. Non confirmed but it seems these were video chat wank sessions that had surfaced online to the public. If that is the case while I still dont agree with a swift boot, maybe not exactly cancel culture but DM worrying about the reputation of the band maybe. Or people from now on associating the word Megadeth with a naked eldery dude wanking it. I can almost see his side of things now. Pretty embarrassing.

My biggest issue was the fact that Ellefson was a founding member. Yeah he is not "The Dave" but he is a CORE member and extremely important. His only issue was how he negotiated his contracts vs someone like Lars for example. Ellefson is just as much Megalith as Mustaine in my opinion and as mentioned a 40 year, lifelong friendship burned like that. Pretty messed up to me.

I am not die hard Megadeth but I did always favor them over Metallica and tbh I absolutely loved some of their work including the latest after Kiko joined. Some of their best, still brutal at their age to me that says something. They came back hard (no pun) when they easily could have turned pop for more money.

Anyway, I am curious to see who the replacement will be and Yes.....Sblue has a point. The new bassist will play for the price of Ellefsons lunch money.
