Mark IIC+ Reissue with Ola

His clip is perfectly heavy but I hear something off in the high end that I don't on the original.
I think I hear the 'more midrange' in the tone with those settings, vs what I remember with the 4 originals I had. But, I dig it as that's how mine sounded after I boosted them...gain way back on the amp, of course. This one sounds 'no boost needed' for more upper mids.

This is a killer sounding amp. Imo.

not surprised Ola made it rip after hearing RT's resident clips.

seeing how quickly he dialed it, it makes the Gibson videos even more puzzling.

What was so funny/awesome about Ola's video is he knew exactly what we wanted and he did it exactly correct. As short and fast as possible with very little talking. As a matter of fact, we probably know that he already dialed it in before he hit Record, and then simply zero'd everything out. Hit Record. Moved all the dials back to where he wanted them and then immediately started chugging as if to say, "SEE"!

So good

-Then I went and listened to Dinesh's "metal" clip that he finally did and it sounded like crap compared to Ola's. :dunno:

Listened a few more times...It's got this ripping quality in the mids that sounds almost like a front end boosted amp. Really nice quality to it.

The problem is that we have the : HoneyMoon. Then The Reality , Then The actual Break In where its going to sound the best.

Then you have comparison videos and Rev this and Rev that and by that point the JP2C becomes the shining star. Just predicting the future. Break in matters and then we have the reality of . . . Amps sound best before detonation. The end of it all . So we all learn in the end, buy the oldest, most beat up, used up pos for the cheapest price and be done with it. They sound the best and look the worst for a reason. 20 years from now the JP2C will be king of the hill. Especially Johns most road worn HOE. Its just the way all this stuff works out.

My experience is that the ugliest cabinets with the mutt collection of speakers sound the best and make the most useful tools in the recording studio. But those mutt cabs NEVER get the shining knight that wants to restore them to previous grandiour. Amps do, but thats the problem, you have to find it before somebody tries to restore it and make money on the insanity.

Kief has houses all over the world with beat up amps, guitars and cabs. He never once had 'a guy ' restore shit. That would be , well, UN Kief. He would never have a big brand company try to make his beat amp, like Jimmy P did. That would be Un Kief. Are you getting the concept here ? Nothing new can channel something old.

The Honey moon is over. Back to price increase for the OG.

O.K. body armour in place, flame away . . .

Meanwhile, Mesa posts a new vid where they play tan-pants tones for almost an hour before even engaging the EQ.

“Konichiwa Ace…
Now be a love would you and rotate that lead drive potentiometer all the way up to the number 2 while I strum Blowing in the Wind on my Lebanese Cypress 335…That’s it…beautiful job Tiger! My people will reach out..Arrivederci, Baby!”

No, i'm just a very very large man

next time someone gets big mad on RT and threatens to beat me up, just remember i'm 6'4" 275 and run 6 minute miles so you can laugh along with me :ROFLMAO:
And suddenly the 5 minute miler keyboard warriors were filled with a false sense of security. Note, however, that @DanTravis62 has not disclosed his time over the first 100 metres. That’s what you really need to worry about….

If Gibson would have done this people would have been shitting their pants to get one, not cancelling orders.

Ola does make it sound pretty gnarly like it should sound. I'm happy with my MKIII red stripe, but may contemplate getting one later on if prices aren't bad once they hit the used market.
I cancelled my order and 100% wouldn’t have had I seen this. The noisy signal quality issues certainly didn’t help either.

My take is that the guys at Mesa & Gibson are playing the types of music they like, and there's no one at either place that plays / enjoys metal. They like their metal customers but it's just not in the front of their minds.

Assuming the current RI used price is $3300, here's where I'd value the competition in relation. That is to say, these are the prices they would have to be at for me personally to be interested in buying one over a RI.
  • C+ RI $3300
  • C+ OG $5000
  • JP2C $2100
  • MKVII $1600
  • MKV $1800
  • MKIII $2300
  • MKIII+ $3000
  • MKIV $2300

You’d pay more for a V than a VII?

Still don’t like any of those prices on the III and the IV. I’m probably too hardwired from years of sub 1K MKIII’s and $1200 MK IV’s but I wouldn’t even look at one unless it was 1500 or less. That probably translates into I’ll never get one then 😂 but I’m Ok with that.

A bass player would fill that out nice I bet.
For sure. But I still feel, even with a bass, the palm-mutes could punch a little harder. For my taste, of course.

But hey, each to his own. Nowadays, everyone is a critic, right?

Hell, I'd pay $1600 for a 7 and I'm not even a Mark guy.
