I looked this show up & man - you're right - this is killer tone even for Ed (meaning his normal tone is great, but this just has some extra bite to it)Yep, said it many times...this was the best live tone I ever heard from Ed.
And it sounded like that live when I saw them on that tour. In fact I saw the soundcheck and the show later, it was smoking. Sadly I didn't get to see his rig up close on that tour as I had the previous two tours.I looked this show up & man - you're right - this is killer tone even for Ed (meaning his normal tone is great, but this just has some extra bite to it)
I worked with a guy that was their FOH briefly.. I asked just some basic stuff on the setup on the tour he did (not sure which, but it was prior to Dec 2012). He said it was W/D/W, using the "tweaked" 5150 III's. As far as he knew, those were the ones that then became the production standard 5150 III's.And it sounded like that live when I saw them on that tour. You mean the Peavey 5150 II's. The Fender line didn't hit until much later. He was still playing his Peavey's on the 2004 tour. The two previous tours I stood right by his rigs backstage, always got the chuckle back in the day when it was the supposed "hidden" Marshall lol.I worked with a guy that was their FOH briefly.. Old age is hell - memory is fuzzy. I think he was on the EVH 5153 during that time. But yes - W/D/W was what I was curious about, and he verified it.You mean the Peavey 5150 II's. Condolences.I was a little too young to see VH in their heyday. The only concert I ever saw them in was with Gary Cherone.
VHIII tour was 98. He was either using prototype II's or production II's as the II's came out about that time. It's why I went and bought one when they hit...although I personally never liked them as much as the original.Old age is hell - memory is fuzzy. I think he was on the EVH 5153 during that time. So he could have possibly been on the EVH 5153 amps in 2012... anyway - the tome in that video kicked assVHIII tour was 98. The EVH 5153 amps didn't hit until 2007. Yes, he'd been WDW for years at that point by 98, even before the Peaveys.

Huh? That video is from the Aussie tour in 98.So he could have possibly been on the EVH 5153 amps in 2012... anyway - the tome in that video kicked ass
Yeah, was great to have a chat with the man.Great to have that experience! Sadly without Roth. GC wanting to sign that album explains why he just was painful to watch in concert when I caught extreme in a small arena . The tour after extreme III . Forgot the album. Was hoping to at least dig nunos playing and tone. His playing was as to be expected but the room was a bass distotion and feedback show ruining shithole. Gary made me decide id never attended any band he fronted live. Realy a pill to watch. Congratulations on meeting the VH bros. What a bucket list experience.
This would have been horrible to watch, glad it never eventuated. Maybe they should have tried Vince, just for the lol's of course.Apparently Ed and they guys were considering getting Chris Cornell to sing for the band. They wanted him to join. Imagine how weird that would be to watch? Chris Cornell doing "Panama" or something?? Chris was a total rock star, but a very different kinda rock star than what is needed for Van Halen.
Got it.Huh? That video is from the Aussie tour in 98.
Killer. I would have done the same thing. In fact, I probably would have punched him in the face. The fact that he went to sign it is offensive. His signature would actually deface that album. I consider that dude the single greatest mistake Van Halen made. I had that album on vinyl as well.Cleaning up some old records today and came across this, funny story.

A friend got me backstage in ’98 when VH toured down under. I took the opportunity to get this signed - Eddie went first, then handed it to Alex… he went to pass it to Gazza. Not on my watch. I reached for it and said to the decadent dancer it’s ok, we’re cool. He scoffed and walked off, like I had said his mother wants an all day sucker. Seriously, in which universe would someone want him to deface this classic?
Mark was busy hitting on some girls so I didn’t bother, but glad I got to chat to the brothers. Eddie is what I expected, just a pleasure. Chatty, friendly, and modest. Alex was little stiffer, but cool.
Show was ok, but Gary was painful to watch. He did a cartwheel at some point, weird shit.
