Hey guys,I have been playing a lot of amps lately. I got the go ahead toget another amp this coming summer, but it will be my last amp before we buy our next house, LOL! So, right now I have a PWE Event Horizon, 20th Bogner Shiva with EL34s and fully modified Mesa Dual Rectifier (BFG). Cabs are Splawn 412 with Celestion Lynhcbacks and G12-65s, Bogner 212OS with Celestion V30s and Stone Age 212C with Celestion G12K-100s. I tend to like thick, chewy amps as you can see but I like to have some vareiety and all my amps sound very different through the same cabinet.

Two amps at the top of my lst are the Orange RV50 MKII and Mesa Royal Atlantic (Still hecking out the Electradyne). On a side note, I tried a lot of Splawns and they are too unforgiving for me. I have nerve damage in my left arm and my technique is not what it used to be so I like amps with some give.
Also borrowed a friend's Egater Mod 50 as it is also in the running. :)

I have tried both of these amps a few times but will need lots more time on both before I but something this summer.

Any comments on thes two great amps? :)

I think you first have to narrow down the speakers choice as that can have a huge effect on the tone

If you like fuzzier looser tones then the Orange would be a good option. If you want the sort of 3-channel option and better cleans then the Mesa would be a good choice. I think both amps have similar gain styles where they have a lot of high mid brightness.

I like them both .... personally I like the Orange OR50 better than either. Just a mater of taste....

Is this for home, gigging, and/or recording?

Home and jam sessions and gigs.

In that case, the Mesa ra. The orange rv50 I had was great at home, but had trouble cutting through the mix unless I used my v30 cab. The cleans suffered a lot with the v30 cab.

I got to play a friend's Royal Atlantic last night. Holy cow, that amp is amazing. It is like a blend of the Electra, a Dual Rectifier and Mark V rolled into one great amp and eaxsy to tweak package! I am in love. :) :) :)

So my amps will be RA, 20th Shiva, BFG modded Dual Rec and PWE Event Horizon. Cabs and speakers are Bogner 212 with V30s, Splawn 412 with Lynchbacks and G12-65 and Stone Age 212 with G12K-100s. I got it covered, LOL.

But what about the MOD50?!

I think I am going to pick up a few amps. Probably the Royal Atlantic and either a Splawn or the Mod 50.

I prefer amps that don't fight me. I like amps that are easy to play and forgiving.
I have peripheral nerve issues that have really screwed up my technique. Basically a disease that effects the nervous system. :(
That is what worries me about amps like Fryette and Splawn and why I like Bogners so much.

I've played orange amps a few times and thought they were cool, but I never wanted one.

I played the Rockerverb 100 at a local music store.....thought it was cool. But not really worth the price tag for the new amp.
If I found a smoking deal on a used one I would of bought it. But I always lean toward the Mesa side. Just the tone I like.

I like amps with a good bit of low mids.

I think the Royal sounds similar to the Mark V only better and simpler.

Recently checked out an Orange TH100 and Splawn Competition 50. Both, although different, are beasts! The Competition has way more gig frendly features with footswitchable Modes or Gears, footswitchable OD 1/2 and footswitchable colo boost. That is an extremely versatile single channel Splawn! Another benefit is that I can get all the clean I want by rolling back the guitar volume. :)

I checked out an Orange Rockerverb 50 Mk II and I loved it.
The harmonic swirl, ease of play, girth, thickness, ballsy tone is contagious.
Nice and smooth. No fizzles.

The RV sounded and felt better.

Oh you know you're going to change your tune as early as tomorrow.  There's zero fizz in the Ed or Royal Atlantic.

Sorry Dan. I didn't mean that.

You know me well. Ha. ;)
