Mesa dual Rev C at guitar center

They are moving most of other Seattle stores into much smaller buildings. A few of them have already moved.

I honestly wouldn't view it as anything special. It may have started life as a Rev C over 23 years ago, but who knows what drama it's been through since then. Obviously the head shell has been changed, so the original was either damaged and replaced or swapped out for cosmetic reasons, which I doubt.

There's no telling what's happened to it over the years. By the time you pay for shipping or potentially tax, you're about $1000 in. You can't use rectifier tubes with it, which is a downer. If it needed any work, you're looking at it going back to Mesa for a bench charge, shipping, etc. By that time, you could practically find a Rev C in its original head shell without the drama and up to spec for the same money that's more versatile (as in, can use Rectifier tubes).

Potential cool piece of history, sure. Worth the money? Only to someone who wants to collect. Not really to me. I've had Rev C's out the wazoo, including ones that were owned by artists like Allan Holdsworth and Vinnie Moore. What did I keep? I kept my Rev F and my early Rev G. Why? Because they sound better. I didn't have to sell them. I sold them because I could dial my Rev F and Rev G in identical to them with different settings and they collected dust in comparison. I even tried to convince myself the Rev C should better, but not myself or anyone that heard them would agree.

The majority of all Recto tone everyone loved in the 90's was Rev G with some Rev F early on, yet people still chase ghosts quite often in regards to these amps. It's just like the IIC+ heads and folks thinking they need "factory originals" to "soundz like teh Metallicaz!!!" when in reality the most famous of James were factory upgrades, ended up with non-original transformers, and even half the time then were slaved into Marshall's and Strategy 400's anyway with the power section rarely used.

My point is don't buy something for hype. Try them all with unbiased ears and I think you'd be surprised at what you walk away keeping.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

If it was Mesa that hacked it up, it's a cool amp any way you look at it.

I wish I would have found this thread a day sooner. I went strait to the GC website and tried to buy it, but was already gone.

Worst case scenario, you have a rev C that has been mangled by some redneck tech. Still worth more than $900. Best case, if Steve is right, this was a factory thought of what was to come later as a triple rec and if that is the case is worth a butt load. Would have loved to grab this, since I could compare it to an actual stock rev C to boot.

sadly, it wasn't me, but i know who did grab it. and, it was confirmed by MB and its heading straight to boogie.

Brent shows lots of enthusiasm & manic gear flip tendencies. I like that in a post.
This frankenrecto is a curious case

Haha thanks and it was curious wonder who bought it

If this amp was modded by FJA, wouldn't FJA add some sort of marks to it that clearly state it was modded by them?

I've never heard of anyone modding a Dual Recto into a Triple Recto and removing everything that makes it a Rectifier (like removing the tube rectifiers), so I wouldn't touch it. I'm pretty sure this is the same amp that pops up for sale at GC every few months, so if you really do intend to pick it up, at least they have a good return policy, even if their customer service is on par Indian telesales.

As for your posts, I don't think any of us have an issues with helping anyone make an informed decision based on our experiences. I always try to be as welcoming as I can. I only speak for myself, but seeing your VS threads...followed by a THIS IS THE BESTEST MAP EVAR MAYDED...followed by THIS MAP IS THE WORST MAP EVAR...is pretty annoying.

If an amp doesn't sound or feel the way you want it to, don't buy it. There's been plenty of guys that have got a range of great tones from Marks, Rectos and Peaveys...and when we read posts like what you've written about your Mark V, it just shows that you don't know how to use the tools you already have.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to upset you, just trying to help you understand the way it comes across, and maybe shed some light as to why you may get negative feedback on threads you start. There used to be a forumite that went by "KSEFan" back in the good 'ole days, and every single thread that he posted in became a complete bloodbath...

I agree I should try to clean up my posts and make them more presentable I'm trying broaden my gear knowledge and to get away from Mesa and the dual rectifier but its my goto amp for everything. So I compare it to other amps all the time I mean build quality no biasing for a tube swap and I get rectifier tone awesome lol. I do hate on the Mark 5 but that 3rd channel should have been thicker and the new multiwatts are all buzzy/fizzy sounding to me no balls in the tone. I am not saying you can't get good tones out of them I was just very very disapointed in my favorite amp companies new line of amps in 2011.

Another thing on that Mark V post I got some very suprising messages from people who agreed with me so I am not alone that the MKV is mostly hype or just a way overpriced bedroom amp. Yeah I got great tones from it too as a matter of fact until I turned it up and it sounded like a MetalZone pedal   just kidding.

Honestly dude I don't care about negative feedback on here or any other gear forum. Because I know how I sound and come across is not in the best light especially through the internet where you can't get to know someone in person. I probably sound dumb or odd or whatever so I am sorry if people are offended I just try to be honest with all my gear experiences for that one person out there who googles Dual rec VS whatever. (I only have 1 actual post that says that by the way) Hopefully said googler gets the info they need because the three most common amps you see in a bar on gig night say Marshall,Peavey, or Mesa and all usually sound awesome because its gig night. So when an amp buyer is looking hopefully someone compared them with some serious honesty so they could invest wisely and not for hype.
