Mesa going old skool

Didn't the OGs have EVM12L speakers? Were they the tops or bottoms in the old cabs, and what others speakers were in the OGs?

Some did. Some didn't. I had 4 412s and 1 vertical 2x12. They all had Black Shadows up top and Vintage Black Shadows in the bottom/sealed portion. They sounded great with IIC+'s (and other Mark Series amps), but sounded like absolute ass with anything else. I ended up selling all of them one by one. I don't think I paid more than $600 for any of them, and one even came with a road case that it just lived in. $1700 is a rip off. Gibson can't help itself, but to reissue slop. No original ideas or innovations, just old bullshit.

Proudly says the speakers are UK made, but nothing on the cab itself.
That usually means something...

I had 5 loaded ones of these and the vertical 2 x 12. Those things fucked. But I didn’t pay more than 600 a cab even a couple of years ago. I still have one loaded with v30s

I paid $1600 total for these 4 cabs back in 2020.View attachment 397454
What do I see in common between these two pics besides beautiful MESA amps?

Plush, luxurious silvery gray carpeting.

Yeah, no one has been clamoring for these to come back.

The metal grill is pretty cool but I’ve never been a fan of open back anything. Wonder how they sound with a back panel installed on the open portion, I’m sure someone has done that in the past with the old ones.

Like a pair of 212s stacked.

It is really weird. They have seemingly bought Mesa to reissue nostalgia. Just like Gibson. The reason it’s extra sad is because Mesa have been a pioneering and constantly progressive company. Not this.

$1699?!?!?

That's crazy. People are not buying 4X12s any more. Gibson needs to read the room and do some market research.
