The clean tone on this amp is awesome, but I keep reading that a lot of people think that channel 2 can't do hard rock tones...I think it's great for that as well.
Sounds really fat and has great sustain.

This is a Wolfgang Special guitar, with no pedals, into channel 2 with the gain dimed...
treble 2:30
mid off
bass off
presence 10:00
master volume loud

Combo is open backed with a single C90 speaker....miked with a Shure 57.

Another quick clip miked with an EV408...not a bad guitar cab mic.

I played the LS and the LSS. Didn't get that tone from it. Very cool. They are nice amps for sure.

Thanks...check out the settings I used, you have to pretty drastically EQ it when the gain is dimed. Adding treble dials in a lot of gain as well.
It's not like any other amp I've tried.

I would not have guessed the bass was on zero, still has some low end to it.

Sounds good Adam :) I like how the high strings react better than the lower stuff if that makes sense

Sounds great. That's some nice sustain. Just like the Mark series amps, they like the mid and bass set low.

That's how most Mesas work, actually. On my Mark III, when you add more treble, you start changing the structure and adding gain. Great clips, btw!

Wow, that really reminds me of the lonestar special I had. The tone is nice, but there's some kind of hair on the notes that I just didn't dig, even though it wasn't all that gainy....

The EQ and preamp are so interactive, lots of possibilities on what kind of gain tone this amp can have (I'm thinking)....not even including pedals.

Lower strings are a little mellower in attack and the higher strings sound a bit hairy?

Thanks Danyeo...Does it remind you at all of your Mark IIC+ or is it much different?
I've never owned a Mark series amp so I'm a bit curious.

I understand the Mark's a bit better now. Thanks!

Did you roll almost all the bass and mids off too?
It's an interesting tone for sure. Single notes are very fat and full...but I know what you mean about the hair, though it isn't bothering me as much.
I'm not gonna set it for myself with this much gain usually. I'd probably set it for at least a third less and nail it with a boost pedal or something for soloing.

That was a great lead clip! I loved your use of controlled feedback. That is a very cool amp!

I never played my old IIC+ on a 1x12 open back so it's hard to compare. I usually used the IIC+ on a Marshall 4x12 with Greenbacks and that setup was Godly. But i have heard MarkIII's on Greenbacks sound as good so i wonder how the Lonestar would sound hooked up to a 4x12 with Greens. But for $1000 used i think the Lonestar kicks ass with it's tone and features. It would probably work out perfect for a classic rock cover band.

The higher end has that MK type bloom to the notes that I like very much, the low end for some reason I was not digging as much. I like some hair anyways :D

As you know Im a huge Mesa fan and I agree with you 100%. Although I love the playing and like the tone somewhat, There is a woolyness to the tone that Im not digging.

I would love to See Adam get behind a good MKIV.

The craziest thing about that head was when I played it through all kinds of cabinets, it sounded best through the Lonestar 4x10. I hated it through all the boogie 2x12's and 4x12's that were there because thet all sounded like mud. The 4x10 still had good bottom end punch and still cut much better.

Sounds nice to me! I'd like a bit more presence, but other than that very cool tone...

Steve
