I got a used series 1 Mesa Boogie single rectifier a while ago. I'm a big Recto fan so this amp was intriguing. I've seen some love but also hate for this amp. A lot of people claim that it's "not as good as the duals or triples" but I did hear some good clips so I was carefully optimistic. The amp is in great shape and everything is functional so I'm happy about it!

After playing with it for a while and writing/recording all the music for my demo I can honestly say that for me, this is probably the best sounding Mesa I've ever played. I also love my others Mesas but this one sounds so unique. Pretty tight and aggressive really. I tried to capture a wide range of tones in my demo to showcase how awesome it sounds. It's 50w, I know, but the low end is huge on this thing and it's also plenty loud folks! I'll be doing a comparison of this one vs my dual and mini soon as well. Should be interesting! :)

Anyway, here's my review and demo of this underrated beast:

I used to own a 50W Rectoverb head back in 2011 and it was killer, It kept right up with the back face Dual recto I also had at the time,
so I'm actually not surprised that you like it. I put KT-77's in mine for a while and man it ripped, gave it a really cool unique tone

Jon, I’m gratified you discovered after all these
decades that Mesa Boogie also had a single rectifier amplifier and you by nature felt it was
under-rated but now you feel it’s no longer under-rated because you like the amplifier now.
Jon.., good for you man!

You’d look real good on a 72inch Dixie Chopper
Flatlander riding mower…Jon.

Can't wait to check your video later.
I got my Rectoverb head about 10 years ago for $490 at GC used because the reverb didn't work.
Mine is a Series II but have considered sending for some mods (I just don't know what mod it needs)
Even though it is a Series II the loop is still pretty wonky. I just don't use the loop (or reverb) because it is my Drop C metal amp.
Trad slant cab with Mesa branded V30s is the shiznit.

I have a series2 loaded with el34 (mesa 447/eh) just to give me a different recto flavor. Great amp for trying different preamp tubes too because you can reach all positions without removing any power tubes.

Wylde OD is the best boost for a Recto, IMO.

@Guitarjon - no boost huh? That sounds killer. Good job with the demo. I didn't realize the Series 1 had no Raw mode. I need to try KT77s myself. I now am back to the Bad Monkey after running the Suhr Koko Boost for some time. I prefer the Bad Monkey for most things but I'm a huge MXR fan and a Wyle fan :D

I miss my Single Rectoverb. It stood up against my Diezels for hugeness with clarity. Totally different than the Single Recto II I had.

I only used a boost for the 8-string section

Damn it man, now I want one of these. Sounds killer. Are these pretty rare? Literally nothing on Reverb right now

Not sure how rare they are. They pop up on the Dutch marketplace fairly regularly.
