Mini Egnater Tone Fest in NJ tomorrow!

So heres the full report:

Had an awesome time jamming out with Eric last night! Mr. Williams is a true class act and a great player to boot. There were a few beers and modules all over the place! We played Eric's new Suhr modern, which is awesome. Hes still working on getting it set-up and getting rid of those god-awful Elixir or whatever slippery strings that come on it, but the tone is there. Its is VERY lightweight and plays awesome. I also really liked the Pro Series Modern rubbery finish. I could see myself being really happy with one of those guitars.

We are all also in agreement now after playing the GNR mod for the SL2 that it is a must-have. Nick and I are both sending in our SL2s. Its amazing how a frame of reference changes everything. We both always loved our SL2s but this was no contest to our ears with all guitars we tried. GNR mod is more alive, less smooth, less polite, just more Marshally. And you know we havent been ones to jump all on the modded module train. But this is really THAT good.

OH and Nick MAY have finally seen the light of TS 5881s. My amp just destroyed his last night. His was an abrasive, staticy mess. Mine was a thunderous onslaught of rich, complex, premium tone.

Anyway, nice to finally meet you Eric and hopefully we can do this again sometime!

Sweet man,I wish the GNR would show up real soon,OHHHH Jeeeeeffffffff!!! :D I was having my own tone fest yesterday with the Mod50

Sounded like fun!

Now for a required question.......

CLIPZ!?!?!?!! :gethim:

Yeah, uh, Nick dropped the ball on that one. Honestly, we were having too much fun rocking out, making fun of Nick's EL34s, and shooting the shit that we didnt even power on the computer...

That's OK Matt,I know how it is!

You'd think that 4 hours is enough to drink beer, eat pizza, and jam... but we just ran out of time! But it was an awesome time. Me and Eric took turns playing the drums, and all of us rotated in and out jamming on the modules.

Honestly, if it wasn't a weeknight, I could have jammed for another 4 hours at least.

I took some pictures, I'll get them up asap.

But Matt's description of the GNR module is spot on. (As is Eric's original description). I think Jeff has a real winner with that module. It's ballsy, rocking, pleasantly grindy, in your face. Very aggressive, but in a classic marshall kind of way.

Not that the original SL2 is bad in any way. But this is just another great module in the lineup that will now be able to satisfy an even wider variety of personal tonal preferences.

I was surprised how awesome w/ that 2x12 loaded w/ V30s, the TS5881s, and the GNR sounded. It's really got me thinking of putting V30s in my Mod50 and throwing the TS5881s back into it. Really has me contemplating what to do going forward. I just loved the tone of the GNR w/ that combo. It really sounded like my old silver jubilee w/ that combo, and that's THE marshall tone IMHO (if you like a tighter, gainier marshall). The SL was a still cool "tried and true" Plexi tone. And complimented the GNR well.

But for those who are wondering, no, I'm not "jumping on the V30" bandwagon. I just really liked them w/ the TS5881s and the GNR. I'm thinking of making the GNR a mainstay in the Mod50 w/ the BMAN, and having that be "that type of tone." And letting my main rig be the EG5 w/ 6550s and T75s / CL80s, cause I did like "my EG5" tone better w/ that combo. I see another Tourmaster cab in my immediate future!!! :)

Matt / Nick are awesome guys too! I really really enjoyed jamming with them. We all had a blast. I wish I lived closer to these guys, but if I did, I would probably be divorced because I would never be at home...ahahahahaha :)

Yeah...Nick was DEFINITELY the brunt of our jokes regarding tubes! Matt's rig definitely had the mojo.

No images for me either. I have to say the TS5881s and 6550s are definitely the "magical" tubes for the Mod50 depending on what you are playing. For the EG5 / DLX types of tones, I really dig the 6550s and the CL80 / T75s. For the BMAN and GNR, I definitely liked Matt's setup w/ TS5881s better w/ V30s. So like Matt said, more gear will be bought!

Definitely a fun night...can't wait to see those pictures!

Eric

Holy FUCK that modern looks nice! I'm gonna hold out and see if I can find one with that dark, subtle vibe to it....and I'm sure duh Mod 50's sounded amazing as well.

  :2thumbsup:

Looks like you guys had a good time. Nice Modern and that LP is sweet as well!

No love for my Suhr? :( WTF.

Sorry Matt! But I thought a player of your talent level with a guitar so perfect already knew it and I didn't need to mention it.

My sincerest apologies!! :worship: :worship:

:D ;) :D ;)
