@RedPlated and I are going to trade schematics. Heā€™s got a few real Joses and a Fortin HG Jose Iā€™m interested in šŸ˜Ž
Thatā€™s my old Fortin Jose. Bitchinā€™ amp.

Bottom left two are both modded.

Top one w checker grille is my Friedman modded 1990 model 1987. Pretty standard ā€œkitchen sinkā€ mod on this one. Three channels: clean, BE, HBE. Clean has a bright pull. FX loop, SAT, FAT, C45 on the back. But this is my #1 go-to amp. Everything on it is just perfect. Itā€™s impossible ā€” I mean it ā€” to make this amp sound bad. Every cab, every guitar, every style. It always comes out on top. I thought about having it further modded to have depth and resonance knobs but itā€™s so perfect as is that I left it alone.

Bottom one is relatively new to me: a 2002 1959 with a Cameron Atomica mod done by Dave Friedman. Weā€™re still getting to know each other but this thing is a fire breather. I just rolled preamp tubes in it to get it into a sweet spot. Sounds awesome now with 5751ā€™s in V1 and V2, a 12AX7A-C in V3 and a 7025 HG in V4. The high mode really screams with this combo because you can actually use the whole gain knob on that mode now.

Once this 74 is done I hope to document this aldrich in detail and make my own spin on that HG Jose.

I was going to ask how that atomica is. Not many originals were made back in the day and thatā€™s the first atomica in a SLP Iā€™ve seen.

Billy does it the best. "100% spot on!"

On a real note. While I think Aldrich mod is the best Cameron offered, I'm starting to kinda warm up for older lower gain Marshalls that are fighting for their lives. šŸ¤”

IMO the killer feel of some of high gainers is for me like an evil temptress. Itā€™s great for a while but I still go back to cranked Superlead-straight-in. Warts, effort, and all. Same with a boosted 2203. I love itā€¦until Iā€™m out of chugs then back to home.

Full frontal of my Superlead clone. I know Iā€™ve swapped one or both of the Treble and treble peak caps since that pic. The switch on the Bright volume adds/bypasses a 220k resistor in series with the 4700pF cap. Labeled ā€˜Pull Brightā€™ where Bright is stock. Pretty much Ed-spec otherwise except filtering. I play this more than anything.

I have pics of a Fortin mod with tons of white goop in it. The amps had a problem and it was a bitch to just swap a pot.
So stupid. I will never understand the silicone, epoxy, spray foam bullshit modderā€™s use to hide stuff. I know Martin politely paintpened out all the values and colors before he installed them. Very neat and professional. Silicone isnā€™t even good for boobsā€¦

What all did you do?
Actually nothing ... to the circuit. The stock combo cab was pretty haggard, so I got a bare pine one from Rawcabs on eBay, put about 20 coats of Tru-Oil on it, five of shellac, polished and then all new hardware. Sounds absolutely amazing. I made a lot of mistakes, but it looks great from a few feet away.

Maybe bad for amps. Love the fake tits! Within reason of course.

I've never had another Atomica so I can't really compare it to any of the same model. I used to own a Cameron Ocean Mod in a 1959 SLP, though, and this Atomica has that same Cameron "Marshall meets Mesa" kind of sound and "super easy to play" under-the-fingers feel. The Atomica is clearly a "brown sound" amp at its core but in "High" mode it goes far, far beyond that and sounds a lot like my old Ocean Mod. It's been a really fun amp to play. The only other amp I've played that was so fun under the fingers was the Victory Super Kraken on Gain 2. I don't know if it's a "forever" amp but it sounds great now that I rolled some tubes in it. Much more versatile and opened up the sound a lot.
