Modern Classic II vs. MTL

You wouldn't be the first, I have a buddy who owned an MCII for all of a week before he resold it at a loss. He hated it.

To be fair, he had a really light touch/technique, and I don't think wizards are forgiving

But some people just don't dig the tones :dunno:

I know they are the popular amp here at the moment, but I’d see weeks old wizards in the classifieds here constantly in the past, it’s really one of the reasons I never pulled the trigger on one, you really gotta not like an amp to sell it that quick after paying that much and however long wait, but then you got others who love them. I’m curious as hell to play one even if I’m not hearing the magic in clips at least others seem to.

I think they're fantastic. Judging by the sorts of tones you seem to gravitate towards, I would definitely go for a hellrazor or mtl or something, though - the mc and vc are very vintage-y, and even less forgiving and easy to play.

The people I know that sell wizards was always needed to pay bills quick . Like me . I love my MTL2 6l6 but something has to go sometimes . Probably my biggest selling regret of all time

Yeah I honestly think that’s the main reason. People just trying to get cash quick. Can always order another from Rick if need be. Some other high dollar amps don’t come around again.

They've been popular on here for well over a decade, not just at the moment. The wait time when ordering one is also typically just a few weeks fwiw. There are lots of reasons guys sell gear they love, but in the case of Wizard specifically there are 2 scenario's I've noticed:

1) his amps seem to periodically actually get better, so sometimes a guy gets the next version and sells the one he had before or sometimes the other way around

2) a guy gets his first Wizard loves it, maybe even sells a few other amps because of it like I did, gets another 1 or 2 Wizard models (or more like mhenson lol) and keeps just 1 or 2 that he likes best and sells the other(s)

I think some guys also maybe expect it to be like a Marshall and are put off at first since it has more of its own sound and feel and should be viewed more that way imo

In my case, I had a 2016 Wizard MTL 100 for 6 years, loved it, sold it just because I felt this Hermansson 5GS Carlsbro did what that amp did even a bit better, then tried a friend's Hell Razor KT150 and it smoked it when compared, so I sold that particular Hermansson and can't imagine what can really rival the Hell Razor at it own's game. It's imo the only model needed now in his lineup

My 2 cents, since you're curious, would be to either find a way to pony up for a Hell Razor or wait for a MTL or MC to show up at a good enough price where you won't take a likely loss if you sell it and if you find one at GC you can return it if you don't like it. Given the diverse range of amps you have and made clips of I'd be surprised if you couldn't make it work well for you in at least some contexts

People sell amps they just got on forums alllllll the time. That's confirmation that guitar players are fickle creatures, not an indictment of the gear.

Looking forward to the day you have a clip of one! I’d love to hear/ try one, but alas
