Most disappointing amp

I have seen people get legit mad because someone said they don't like an amp they have...and the more expensive and special they consider it, the more the anger rises. It's pretty funny if you think about it. "You not liking these wires, parts and tubes that I think are the best offends me! My amp defines me as a human being, how dare you!"
Yea, I don’t get it. Like the modeling fellas that get RAGING mad if you say that their clips don’t sound just like the real amp

My least favorite amp was a Panama Inferno 100. Paid full price for one, then barely got anything for it when I sold it.
I lost more money in that amp than any other piece of gear I've ever owned.

Yeah. Maybe that is the disconnect.

I was convinced I needed to buy a Panama Shaman. My buddy talked me out of the whole lunchbox fad, which I am glad he did. I believe they can really impress rock folks. But it is never going to do punch like a big boy

It's the main reason I don't buy anything that doesn't have a return policy anymore.
I spend a week or two with it, and if it's not working for me, it goes back.

I had a 3 channel Peters that I couldn't sell fast enough - was the most boring amp I'd ever played.

I don't like the meister series or the newer triamps, but the mark 1 triamp was actually a really solid high gainer IMO
It's not even a fair comparison to include the older made in Germany versus the new made in China stuff.

Even the newer made in Germany stuff sounds mushy and undefined. From what I gather from other players, that's the general HK vibe now, or maybe it always has been.

I have no doubt the earlier Triamp was an absolute monster though, as others have said that same thing.

I don't know how this has happened, but the early Triamps were wildly different sounding

The highest gain channels have always been compressed sounding, but on the mark I it was smooth and refined and rich sounding, kind of like a kittyhawk or something like that, and the orange channels were a very convincing superlead or jmp sound. On the newer models its like it keeps getting grainier and more scooped every revision, until now, where the modern ones almost sound like a solid state gain sound like a randall. It's so grainy, weedy, and thin that it's ridiculous - the only way it sounds good is with a 7 string or something where you need to cut all the low end out anyways.

I don't know what happened to H&K but their products have really taken a huge downturn in actual sound the past 20 years, its kind of wild.

holy smokes... PTSD. I blocked out of memory that I even owned that amp in college.

WTF, that sounds a million times better than I remember, lol.
Well to be fair, it is not going through the 6" speaker. I have it hooked up to my 4x12.

I’ve posted this before, but, just to make sure others don’t make the mistake I made, here goes…

Yamaha T100 ‘Soldano SLO 100 copy’.

I bought the amplifier brand-new hoping for great things. Luckily I saved a ton of money as I bought a new one in the box just ‘after’ Yamaha discontinued this model. They were dumping this new head.

I got it, and it didn’t sound quite right to me, so I took it to my buddy’s place two hours away from me to compare to his real SLO100,
… it was extremely disappointing.

But, being a glutton for punishment, I went even deeper into the hole, when I sent it to Bill Sundt at Soldano, he added the choke modification and tweaked the preamp section to be exact is an SLO 100.

So, After sinking another $450 USD into the amplifier, it still didn’t sound or feel close enough to the SLO.

I later talked to Mike regarding this and he shared with me that he was not at all pleased with the production T100 and that Yamaha took many cost saving short cuts and there was really no way to make the amplifier sound any closer to the SLO100.

I would highly recommend against buying one of these T100 amplifiers with hopes of having a cheap SLO100 copy.

It’s an ok amplifier but NOT a SLO100 clone by any means.

Sold it and lost money.
You get what you pay for.
