Most disappointing amp

Diezel 2003 VH4- total letdown for me, sounded really dark, dull and compressed sounding, tried different tubes and cabs and never could like it, i hated it. But many years later i tried a 2012 VH4 and loved it and purchased one.

Marshall vintage modern- i got it in a trade and sounded decent in clips but inperson i hated it.

But seriously isnt that the pre 2007 presence mod whom implemented by Peter Diezel and still many rave about the blueface which is essentially the pre 2007 VH4 sikverface ?

I would do most overrated, but I am trying to avoid the peanut gallery that just chimes in with every expensive amp they have never tried...

If you have tried an amp and thought it was the biggest letdown...fair fucking game.

If I think back to all the amps I have owned, I believe price/lore vs realization...SLO comes to mind. Maybe I need to revisit it, but it really did nothing for me, and I was very into Avengers at the time.

It was just so smoooooth and bland. I believe the twin jet did the smooth darker voicing so much better while having balls. I have been told it is good for leads...but most leads are fucking contrived shit noodling anyway...so fuck that.

One thing i will add for the inevitable shitstorm here is I am not saying it is a bad amp. And it sounds much better than the evh 5153... But it is two to three times the price, so..
Not everyone has to like the SLO, I get it...but...I've never heard anyone say it DIDN'T have balls...did you turn it up??? A healthy 100w SLO(Soldano, not BAD....haven't had a BAD one to compare) will stay with any 100w amp I've ever played, which includes 100w Wizards, 4 Mesa Coliseums, old Superleads......SLO at volume is one powerful amplifier.

I think i was so into the diezel i had at the time, that it just seemed bland. I was very excited for the slo since i loved avengers and heard how great it was. But maybe i should try it again. I dont know what good it would do, but i am game to revisit

Probably my mid 80s 2204, vertical input. And it didn’t sound bad by any means, but it also just wasn’t particularly inspiring, which is what the hype would suggest it should be.

I have a BAD Soldano SLO and it’s the loudest amp I’ve owned it will peel the paint off the wall will clarity and punch, I’ve owned/ tried old original Marshall plexi’s,Wizards, Hi-Watts, etc etc.

I sold the 3 SLO's I had a while ago now, but if anything I find any post 1997 or so Diezel I've played bland in comparison to the SLO's and have ample power like Racerxrated said. Very different amps though. The Avenger's are very different and can see why one could prefer it, more suited for metal, but didn't have IME the 3D, better tone quality when I compared it to a SLO

yes, so many rumours about that amp. Peter says otherwise like you. Although i will say the 2024 version is the best i tried. Sold it still though

I'm with racer. Even compared to the big hitters SLO always measure up. It makes me think they're was something wrong with it.

I owned a 2022 BAD SLO and it was one of the loudest amps I've ever owned. I couldn't handle it. It was more lack luster than most other amps at low-moderate volume and needed significant volume to start sounding good. But when you turned it up it was something else, but painfully loud.

I don't know how this has happened, but the early Triamps were wildly different sounding

The highest gain channels have always been compressed sounding, but on the mark I it was smooth and refined and rich sounding, kind of like a kittyhawk or something like that, and the orange channels were a very convincing superlead or jmp sound. On the newer models its like it keeps getting grainier and more scooped every revision, until now, where the modern ones almost sound like a solid state gain sound like a randall. It's so grainy, weedy, and thin that it's ridiculous - the only way it sounds good is with a 7 string or something where you need to cut all the low end out anyways.

I don't know what happened to H&K but their products have really taken a huge downturn in actual sound the past 20 years, its kind of wild.
I found the Warp X pretty flat . But damn it looked cool . But I agree they fell off a cliff

Try the Avenger instead . Not any features . Just one simple channel of metal Soldano

Cornford M50 ... too me it just sounded like a high gain pedal into a solid state poweramp. I mean it wasn't terrible but it was very meh

Not if use a noisgate . I never had a problem . That strange
Look. You use a noisegate before amp. And that works good. Avenger loop is trash, so if you play at volume, that is where the real noise comes from. With avenger, you can knock out a lot of noise before amp, but it is a lot to fight unless you are in band context, where the noise isnt that big of a deal. But i remember playing an avenger at 120 dbs.

I misstepped and took off the gate. The guitar volume was rolled off, but the microphonics was 112 dbs alone...that is what happens when a rock guy builds a metal amp.

He said he thought it was weird when people complained about noise because all amps make noise. Sometimes we can be happy with status quo, but when you have amp makers that listen and innovate, and their quiet amp with more gain is next to yours that is puking static....idk
