How do I know they will fit the amp with boogies color codes?
Many will recommend Sylvania since they’re a tried and true classic in Boogie’s, but even better imo in tone are the JAN Philips ECG’s, vintage USA Tung-Sol’s and Raytheon 5881’s (good luck finding them though). Honestly I think Sylvania’s are overrated. They do sound very good in mark amps, but not much else imo and even in marks not to me the very best option

With color codes/values, I guess I just got lucky that those Raytheon, Tung-Sol, and Philips I’ve got are at very similar values to my Boogie branded Sylvania’s using my bias probes, but it is a gamble I guess. Haven’t had as good luck with my vintage EL34’s

was your amp worked on before? looks like he recapped someones recap, judging by that pile of parts.
also looks like someone was a rough knob turner

When I had my IIC++ up at Mesa a few years ago, I asked Mike about the 415’s. They stashed a bunch of them back in the day. I thought he said more like $200 per tube but I could be wrong.

I have 415’s in mine. But I prefer 34’s in the outer sockets. Leans it out a bit and sharpens the attack. I’m pretty sure I have Sylvania 6CA7 in outer sockets right now.

They were $250 a pair late last year at least. I bought 6 of them for my IIC+ Coliseum that Mike worked on.

It was recapped by someone in Europe but wanted what Mike thought was best. The pots that are damaged i think they were just damaged when he changed them out. It was working properly when I shipped it. I just wanted it up to date and with the switchable ++ mod

I just sent my Mark IVb in for a service. Can't wait for it to come back, as it's the best amp I've ever played through... even better than the Mark III red stripe I used to own. Well, it's better for my style of playing, as it's a little bit more modern sounding and it records a hell of a lot better than the III did.

Aaaaand back! How awesome is this!!!

Yeah my mark iv was far better for recording than my mk3 blue stripe

And i’m excited!!

Switchable ++ and a general service. A long way from Denmark :) It’s going for play test on Monday and then shipping back to Denmark 😍😍

These are the parts he changed out

It’s an original DRG
Congrats!

I think I will give new power tubes. Can you recommend me some? All 6L6 :)
I will concur with most in the Sylvania 6L6GC being the best....but...I was surprised when I popped in the cheap Sovtek wafer bottom 5881s when they sounded almost as good as the Sylvanias (Mesa 415s). You can get them easier over where you are, and the version out of Russia is the 6P3S-E (Military version, from the early 90s) and sound even better. Mike B told me that they can really take some high plate voltages and are his next fav tube to recommend after the Sylvania.
