UPDATED 6/15/09 with MORE PICS!!!

As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted a sparkle glitter flake guitar. Something about them screams rock and roll excess, "look at me". They're so obnoxsiously awesome.

So instead of buying a new one, I decided to refinish my old 1994, ho-hum black LP Studio.

I've been wanting to do this for a while now. I had the finish done by Marty Bell, who is the best in the biz for sparkle finished. He did an amazing job on the finish, and we decided on a taped binding, to simulate the real deal. LOVE IT!!!!!

Yeah dude! I freaking want to see it built now!!! Come on, come on!

Hey, is that a Standard in your avatar pic?

Thanks guys!

Yes, that's a Gibson LP Standard Plus 01 in my avatar at the moment.

By the way, Nick. You are officially known for the "sick guitar in front of the fern" avatars! Don't go and change that now. Next avatar I want to see is that SSSS on the stand in front of the fern! SSSS you ask? Sparkly Studio Super Sport. :D

F&cking Bad @ss!!! Now you need a sparkley suit and pants to match.

Dude that looks killer man! He does as good as work as Tony DeLacuga did on my flame sparkle strat.

Oh and I could totally see Nick in a sparkley shirt...but he's in Joisey...he'd have to do the Jon Bon Jovi tight leather pants ;)

Nick, That looks great, if you ever want to sell it, I'm sure Ace Frehley will take off your hands.

Very nice job on the finish Rocket Man. :D Seriously, I dig it.

I actually did not do the headstock to match. I've always preferred the black headstock faces on thh LPs. I left the paint "break" line at the neck joint. So the neck and headstock are the old black, and the body is silver.

It saved me quite a bit of money though. Close to $200 beans.

Would you mind saying how much it cost you? I have an all-mahogany guitar that I have been thinking of getting refinished, and sparkle would be pretty killer on it. Thanks.

It's $435 for a Gibson set neck. That includes taping every thing off, fretboard, etc.

Marty did just the body for me, for around $250. I'm sure each individual case might vary.

Nick, that turned out really well. I love it!

Are you satisfied with how the taped binding turned out? I've also got a guitar that could benefit from a sparkle finish like that.

Michael

The guitar arrives to me on Thursday... these are only the pics that Marty sent. I have yet to see it in person. BUT, he said that he tapes it off first, then sprays the glitter, then removes tape, THEN does the clearcoat, so the "faux binding" is even with the finish, and looks real.

I can't wait.

Nick - Did you pull the pups and electronics out before you sent it, or did he do that? If he did it, does he re-install and wire everything back up, or do you have to do that after you get it back?
