Now THAT.......is when Guitar RULED!! I still live in that era...(at least music wise)
Dial in HAIR NATION on the satellite radio....and snap the FN Knob off!!
When a song could be determined in the first 5 seconds but the riff!!!
Yaaaahhh!!!
EXACTLY! WE DON'T NEED NO DAMN AMERICAN IDOL. :gethim:

No American idol....just the first 4 bars from "Great White....Once Bitten Twice shy......"

Is it wrong for a guy to still listen to Invasion of your Privacy and Tell No Tales like they were just released last week? I still think 80's production OWNS anything currently involved in the over compressed volume war we have now. It's official...Im an old fuck...at 35.DAMMIT!

I did some solos on a friends Prog Metal record recently and went with him to lend an ear during the final mixes. The kid mixing was 23...and getting him to add ANY verb or delay to anything was like we were taking his lunch money and forcing him to go hungry!...we won in the end, but he didnt go without a fight!

Hahaha! A big plus one to that! :aww: :aww:

Yeah, where did it all go. Maybe that's what this stuff is all about. If I can feel like I did playing the old stuff, it makes you feel a bit younger.

Man....when I get behind my rig and start ripping out LAY IT DOWN and the Drummer kicks in.......
Goosebumps!! Makes me feel 16 years old again! (even though I am 38)
But.....the best GUITAR music came from the 70's/80's......hands down! Riffs are Riffs!
They should carry the song and not let the guitar be just "back ground noise" like the crap thats on the radio today!

I'm the same way with 70's Arena Rock/Metal...
Judas Priest,UFO,Rush,Richie Blackmore's Rainbow,Quicksilver,Heart,Amboy Dukes,Bowie,Joe Walsh/James Gang,Free,REO SW,Blackfoot,Frank Marino,New York Dolls,MSG,AC/DC,Lynard Skynard,Uriah Heep,GF Railroad,Yes,early Iron Maiden,Led Zeppelin,Sex Pistols,Sabbath,Van Halen's 1st,Def Leppard (up to "High & Dry")... Those were thee fucking days!!!
Too me,music started going downhill in the 80's... Just my opine. The George Lynch's and Warren DiMartini's of the 80's were more of a novelty IMO. They had technique;but no real sense of melody. Non-inspiring,and boring to listen to unless drunk! The only CD's that I listen to from that era are AngelWitch,Metallica,Tigers Of Pan Tang,TT Quick,Gary Moore,Ozzy w/Randy,and Accept.
I like a lot of the early 90's music... The Seattle scene really brought about a return of 70's style Rock IMO. When Nirvana,Sound Garden, and AIC came onto the scene,it was like a musical hurricane came through blew-away the trash! No more Warrant,Motley Crue,Dokken,Ratt,White Lion,Winger... The list goes on like a bad case of the shits! I hope these bands like - totally restrict their touring to "the valley" - for sure!
"The Pixies" song formula has been done to DEATH! It's still being used now.
Sound Garden reminded me so much of Zeppelin/Sabbath in their sound, and song arrangements... They were like a "drop-tuned" Led Zeppelin... Very cool! It didn't take long for the NY/LA based record companies to exploit them too. In the end, even these guys went commercial. I hear so many people say: "What the fuck happened to music"? Three things: MTV,digital sampling, and Gibson's $3,500.00 price tag for a guitar...

Yep,very cool times, indeed! i think it's the fact that everything that was "coming about" back then was new & fresh,so that blew ya away.now,EVERYTHING's been done to death! same thing goes for movies.it's all been done, just about every story plot has been thought up,so now we rely heavily on computer-generated graphics & special effects to make up for lacking storylines.dont get me wrong, some things generated with computer-aid are cool but that should never be at the "expense" of good story writing, imo ;)

You got it! I'll take the original Godzilla over the digital one any day! I fear there is no new musical frontier... It's all just variations of the same old shit! I don't think there will ever be a resurgence of the 80's bands... It would probably go over more as a comedy act than anything else? Can you imagine someone coming out on stage with "Welcome To The Jungle" hair? I was LMOA when saw it back in the 80's! When that era hit - I shaved my head! It was difficult finding people to jam with;but once I did - I didn't have to worry about one of my band-mates asking the dreaded question: Does anyone wanna play - "Pour Some Sugar On me"? That would be grounds for a serious ass-beating! Where the fuck is the "Stargazer" of today?

  yes,sir! i'm just glad i can say that i grew up around the 70's & 80's music(and movies)...good times,man! cant be beat,either!!!
