NAD! Diezel VHX

I found this to be my favorite Diezel too. I think some just see the digital interface and view it as less authentic, but the sound and punch are solid, and you can't beat the flexibility. My VH4s and Herberts just seemed too one dimensional after this.

You may already have a midi, but if not, it pairs well with the Diezel Columbus. Really expands your options and functionality. Moves it close to Fractal territory. They're a little expensive new but pop up used from time to time around $300. Not cheap, but it adds so much.

Here's a mic'd up cab clip. An early 70's Marshall 1960B. I'm fully aware that I'm a retard and like to do things like using death metal levels of gain with a Telecaster to play non death metal riffs. This amp actually gets stellar clean tones as well. I'll make a clip of that at some point too.

I was one of those that also disregarded it in the beginning, but I'm glad I came around. I do have a Morningstar controller on my radar, but I did look into the Columbus also. The difference with the Morningstar is it's ability to send control messages you can program, so you can toggle just certain effects on or off, or just switch the channels within the preset, things like that as far as I understand it. Although I'm not really feeling the need for any of that yet just sitting next to it in the studio.

i had always discounted it because I saw a lot of reviews saying it didn’t quite measure up to the dedicated vh4/herbert models…

but if that isn’t somewhat universally accepted wisdom I would be interested!

One more of the ultra heavies. This is the red channel boosted with the J Rockett Archer going into my Fryette PS-2A in silent mode (powered off), line out into Fractal Cab Lab 4. Going for Crowbar riffage/tone here.

BAD ASS :cheers2: :

The Marshall cut with the 'Recto' pre amp compression in the second half of this riff is frickin rippin :

Not sure how you did that :geek:

What is this thing? Digital pre into power amp?

Sounds rad. HNVHXD
clipping is done pure analog.
Some of the EQing is done with the DSP, i think. but i don't feel any latency.
well there is always the AD - DA conversion going on, but it's the same as if you have your effect rack in the loop.
If done right, there is no audible difference. tested this years ago with the herbert and a tc elec. major.
i challenge the naysayers to a blind test!

the 0.5 steps for the "pots" and the stepping noise that comes with it might be the only downside. i don't care for the later but sometimes wish the steps would be smaller

Pushed clean on the yellow channel with a few onboard FX, and then reverb in a plugin. The onboard reverb is fine, I just always play into this one.

Wow, I love this clip! No offence intended but I never got along with Deizel amps. This sounds fantastic.

Thanks. Sounds like a similar set up to my Peavy Vypyr Tube 60 combo - but on a much nicer scale

Analog pre - Digital EQ - Digital controls - some Digital effects, but otherwise an Analog pre into Valve power section.

Thanks man! Yeah and I completely get how they don’t jive with a lot of people. The cleans/pushed cleans really surprised me.

Totally! Nothing against the amps. Just never jibed with my playing but others (like you) make them sound huge. That breakup tone you posted is great!

so, is there A/D/A conversion even if you dont use the onboard effects?
Yes, I saw Leo answer that exact question in another thread. I don't remember exactly why. But A/D/A conversion isn't much of a deal anymore with modern converters, they're pretty much transparent across the board these days. You see guys with multiple Strymon and other digital pedals on their boards? That's a round of AD/DA for each one and they still sound pretty great.
