The playing can be a part of it but a bar chord sounds like a bar chord, I've played with Neal Schon he and I's rhythm playing is nearly identical that wouldn't make that big a difference IMO. As far as amp modding, so many big artists amps have been worked on to one degree or another, an amp mod done right can make a mind blowing difference, just ask Eddie Van Halen!
       :LOL:modesty isn't dead.

I hear so many negative things on this forum about the Bogner Alchemist. I have had mine for months and I find that the amp performs awesome. I have had others play through it and they find that it sounds great and can do most anything. Certainly not the grunt of a $4,700.00 amp, but very respectful. Maybe others have had lemons or maybe they have to sharpen up their skills. With out all the distortion and gain from the very expensive amps to hide mistakes you have to play very well. A good guitar player can make anything sound good as I have seen many great players on this forum do so.

From the clips I have heard and from the few times I have given them a 5 minute run down at the store I wasn't that impressed with them and it has absolutely nothing to do with opinion on this forum. Flat out it was something that I wasn't going to buy. If it works for you then stick with it. I love the bogner I have but the Alchemist just didn't do it for me.

Boof.

This thread rules

Leared my lesson though, have not posted about Neal since

I'm not sure but I would think anything these guys used could be modded to sound great. I've heard so many great sounds on tour and then you hear the production amps and they lack bigtime. I don't know what's up with Slipknot but those Rivera's sound God awful IMO but the records sound great. $$$

I've never been able to dial a Rivera K-Tre in either that it sounded good. On the other hand, I definitely liked the JVM I played and the Alchemist is not bad if you pair it up with something other than that 2x12 open back cabinet. I used to think Boogie Rectifiers were horrible (they're definitely not the best without a boost), but Rectifiers, when boosted, are some of the best high gain amps around. You really need to spend a lot of time with some amps to get used to them. Hell, the best Marshallesque amplifier I've heard aside from Mike Fortin's Cali Mod is my Friedman modded Windsor. It's not about price; it's about design.

ritchie sambora likes the marshalls too

Neal's my boy too. One of my all-time fav guitarists. He needs a pair of Friedman modded Super Leads and a pair of VH4's, then he'll be doin' some damage for sure.
He used to use VH4s, as for the Alchemist, that's a bitchen amp IMO.

Gillis is using a Line 6 Pod XT with a Boss GT-8 into the FX return of an early 80's Peavey Mace on this current tour.[/quote]

You sure of this?

I saw NR in June and on New Years and Brad was using his trademark Soldano Decatone while the other guitar player (forget his name) was using a 5150III.

i dont understand all the alchemist hating, i think it sounds fantastic and would love to own one. i guess i have crap for ears huh

Psst........ dude, that was a joke. I just combined three pieces of Rig Talk determined crap and said that's what Gillis used ;)

I don't know bout all the hatin'....
I just watched a live DVD mixed in 5.1 from last year or so and NS's live guitar tone sounded pretty freakin' awesome to me.
Wet as an underwater cave, but still pretty awesome!

I think he runs all that wet/delay stuff on purpose. That housewife fan
base would get all up in a tizzy if they could actually hear all that speedy guitar playing!

Neal Schons tone is off the charts so I am imagining Gillis must have been ridiculous. Fan of both, but hard to imagine what your talking about??????

I have the GP articule with Brad btw, he goes through the original Red Strat and shows some of his other fiddles. If you want it let me know and I will send it out to ya. From about a year ago or so.

There's Scott again, buying friends. When he was little, his mom had to tie a pork chop around his neck just so the dog would play with him.

I owe Pete one for sending me a shit load of backing tracks!!!!

My mom would not let me have a dog, I had a Hamster

A pork chop eating hamster? J/K

You guys are all nuts... ;)

I don't get it. I think are both awesome amps. In fact, when I get some more free cash together, they are both coming back home again.
The only thing I will say about them is, that they aren't what I like to call "guitar-shop amps"... You know the ones that sound flipping amazing in the store, and in your bedroom... But the second there is a drum kit present, they get buried. So when just trying them out, they won't make that much sense.
But play them live, and they suddenly make sense. Great versatility, and very practical too. And for that price...

Poor Neal, still getting blasted for using those junk jvms................

He probably had a roadcase full of extra knobs because all of those crappy mounted JVM knobs were constantly breaking.
