I used to always say my recto sounded like a hybrid of a recto and a mark.
This mark is like a hybrid or the Mark and Recto.
I
Okay, I am totally confused.

My MK3 has more thump than any of my rev F's, including my Kyle Rhodes triple rec. I also think my MK3 does a better scooped metal tone too.
For sure. When I had the Recto stock it was "meh"
After having it modded out by FJA..... Its a killing machine.
Really really brutal and clear defined.

i'm not a foot guy, where's my ass and leg shots at?
Thanks Hilltop and Mr. Thug :D

For the Jackbooted Thug 4 life person....
I just did a video of me and nothing but the Nike sport sandals.
Please check our 'private' account.
When I say this amp will smack around your ball sack in person.....
I clearly demonstrate this in the video. I think you will like it.

I think I am sterile now.
  Just listened to the newer clips, very similar to how I dial I my 2C+. Killer. I get some additional upper mids from an OD1X, I drop the gain on the amp a bit. When you think about it, you can find a used Mk 3 for 7-800, send it in to Mike B for 3-500 and you've got 1200 into a practically new amp with that tone. Deal.

Hell yes that's a good deal!
This amp hangs with my modded recto.
It's a monster. Highly recommend any to do this if they been thinking about it.
Real smooth process.

Just sent my blue stripe III off today. Getting it serviced (red plating on power tube) and the III+ mod. Very very excited, it's been sitting around for a few years doing nothing. After your threads I thought why not send it in. Any mods for the clean channel? I just want big fat Fender cleans out of it. Probably will be great anyway just wondering if there's anything I don't know about.

Cool man!!
Not sure about the clean channel. Haven't tried it yet.

"Setting the Bass much past 2, is something you really shouldn't do."

"If you set your Treble around 7 or 8, your amp will sure sound great"

(Ok, I might have made both of those up :D )

They maybe made up, but none the less, you speak the truth...

For sure....
Played it again extensively this past weekend. It was just ripping!
No flub just real cutting metal tones.
Definitely gotta dial this one in with ears and not the eyes.
Think I have the presence cranked to 10 in the back. Yet it is not over bright.
Mike B told me to goof around with the settings since being modded its going to respond different then the stock amps.

I've lately been running my presence dimed & pulling it back with the GEQ. I think it sounds more open that way than vice versa. Don't be scurred. ;)

My MKIII is so loud, can't imagine a Coliseum!!

I kind of wish I had Mike do the ++ mod to mine but we didn't, just did the C30 mod. No regrets, it still rips. Definitely more vintage metal sounding than my JP2C, one can't replace the other.

Hey Mailman I've got a question for you since you've had your ++ for a while now. In my MKIII, even with the C30 mod, I've really been feeling (and others have commented) that there's something harsh about the sound- and by that, I mean that compared to my other amps when played at the same volume the III causes more ear fatigue. "I should probably turn it down." The tone & cut is fantastic, this is purely about ear fatigue if that makes sense. It's something in the upper mids voicing that doesn't really change with knob turning on the amp although I can calm it down by turning down the guitar's tone knob. Can you comment on this with your ++? I could always send it back to Mike to have that done, or else I was thinking about selling it & maybe trying a Mark IV or a Mark Five 25 next because why not.

I can hear what I'm talking about I this clip I did- https://youtu.be/5t339KHoOt4

Yup. I know the 'harsh' you mention. I think with the ++mod while more gain is added. It is slightly smoothed out a bit. But I also run the mxr10 band eq in the loop and do slight tweaks with that.
Set that damn near flat line with a slight bump on the 2 end sliders.
It's really noticeable in a great way. Was just playing it last nite with my drummer.
Made a couple videos on the zoom but haven't uploaded them yet.
300 bucks for the mod well worth it.

I think it's just the huge midrange of the markIII. When I listened to your vid the jp2c sounded fizzy compared. The jp2c is maybe a more polite amp in a room or home playing etc...
Like mailman said earlier, in a band mix at volume the III really comes to life and can be super aggressive and smooth at the same time imo. Damn I miss my old red stripe.

Yeah it has to be the voicing for sure. Unique.
We started off playing the mark iii. Was slamming!!
Bout 2 hours in switched over to that modded dual recto. It sounded 'weird' at first.
Once ears got adjusted it was just heavy brutal crunch. :D
That thing is a chugging machine ;)

I think I may have solved a lot of my "harsh tone" problem. I closed my eyes & started playing with knobs, and that harsh mid bite went away when I pushed in the "pull deep", and then pumped up the 80 slider to get the bass back it lost. Big improvement. I've been playing for so long with deep pulled I didn't even think about it. I swear the tone floats a little on these older amps.. :P

Also try this. I've been playing in the Rhythm 2 channel with a 20db boost for really heavy tones instead of playing them in the lead channel. Give that a try. I think there's a lot more chordal clarity there than in the lead channel.
